      7. Funny stories       Do you have a funny story you would like to share? These stories can bring a       smile to someone's face and in this day and age, can't we all use a smile?        Make someone feel good by sharing it with us. Send it to phil@bignews.biz and       we may publish it here.              "My brothers and I got together recently and we were talking about how times       have changed so much, especially with all of the technological advances. We       were saying how kids these days are just so accustomed to having answers at       their fingertips and don't really know what it's like to do research through       books and encyclopedias. They probably don't even know what an encyclopedia       is! About a week later I was asking the students in my kindergarten class if       any of them could imagine how big the earth is. One of the little boys in my       class raised his hand and said "It's OK if you don't know, just ask Siri and       she will tell you." Keri M." (editor's note: for those of you who might not       know, Siri is the "name" of the voice/computer inside an iphone who can answer       questions that you ask)       -------------              8. A Vintage Recipe       Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http:       /www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html       Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.              Our most recent request asked about a recipe for "pie crust cookies". We       received so many responses! Thank you to Judy H., Marilyn C, Diane G., Clare,       and Margaret C.! Judy's recipe is below because it was slighly different than       everyone else's. Underneath Judy's recipe, we've included one that was       similar to the rest of the recipes that were sent in. Try them both and see       what you think!              MRS. BERRUS' NUT ROLLS       4 cups flour 1 cup shortening       1 yeast cake       3 eggs (beat slightly first)       DIRECTIONS:       Put flour and shortening in a bowl; crumble yeast over and mix like a pie       crust; Make a well and add eggs. Less handled the better. * *If dough is too       stiff, add warm milk or water. Put in wax paper and refrigerate a couple of       hours. Separate a section of dough and roll it out like a pie crust on SUGAR,       not flour. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts and a little cinnamon. Cut in       quarters and roll from wide side. Bake at 350+# for 10 mins.       ***** "If you want to make a large batch, just mix up enough pie       crust for a two-crust pie. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. (Or       divide the dough and make two smaller rectangles, to make it easier to       handle.) Sprinkle dough liberally with cinnamon & sugar. Roll up, starting       with long side of dough, then slice with white sewing thread. Bake in a 350       degree oven for about 12 - 15 minutes, depending on size of "roll-ups". Just       watch them closely, and when they start to turn golden, they are ready. They       are delicate and just about melt in your mouth. They are also quite       addictive!"               ------------       --------------------------              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
