Here's a recipe from the 1974 version of American Family Cookbook:

   All-Seasons Macaroni Salad
   1 cup dairy sour cream
   1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
   1/2 teaspoon salt
   1/4 teaspoon season salt
   Few grains pepper
2 cups (8 oz) elbow macaroni, cooked and drained 1 1/2 cups diced cooked
   chicken
1/2 lb bakcon, panbroiled and crumbled 2 hard-cook eggs, choppsed
   1/4 cup chopped pimiento
   1 large tomato, diced
   1 avacado, peeled and sliced
   Curly endive

   1. Mix together in a bowl the sour cream, salad dressing, salts, and pepper;
add macaroni and chicken and mix well. Chill thoroughly.
   2. Add bacon, eggs, pimiento, and tomato to macaroni; toss lightly. Turn into
   salad bowl.
   3. Sprinkle lemon joice over avocado slices; garnish salad with avocado and
endive. Additional bacon, chicken, eggs, pimiento, and tomato may be used to
   garnish, if desired. 6 servings
