I bootup into to a Debian Login/Shutdown requester screen.               I think I figured out where that name comes from! Woody was the        cowboy hero in "Toy Story." I believe a Walt Disney animation        movie. BTW, the next Debian version is called 'Sarge.'               > DS> I login as 'root' dir and enter the password. In other words - we'll have to port a        > lot of goodies to get everything working as expected.               Oh yes, there's a lot of stuff to get! Being a newbie to linux,        I'm kind of going slow. Gotta learn a lot of linux dialect before        I'm ready for downloading. Open Office comes up in discussions.        My glibc and X-windows version are probably not up to it. So if,        you get OO, you want get CUPS -- Common Unix Printing System. Some        people like to use Opera. Ooh, I found Mozilla in the Gnome menu.        I haven't used any browsers yet because I don't know how to setup        the network in linux. I'm plugged into a 6way LinkSys router with        RoadRunner cable modem.               > DS> From here it's my choice to do Linux things, like play with        > Python        > DS> from a shell, or run 'Wierd Science', I'm sorry -- UAE, and emulate        > DS> an Amiga. Wierd -- emulate an Amiga on an Amiga -- science! The UAE        >         > If you want to emulate a classic environment, there's not a whole lot        > of ways you will be able to do it.               Yes, how true. The classic custom chips are gone. :-\ LinuxUAE        runs at a 68020- no JIT-in full ECS. UAE comes packed in drabby        WB3 with Scala wrappings. That's old phooey. I got busy getting        my OS3.5 and OS3.9 CDs to boot off the CDs. :) The CacheCDFS is        set for SCSI.device, but the A1 is IDE. So, I made the Emergency        -Disk with the system driver and changed the S-S and bam! We're        lookin' good again.=:D I don't know if I want to install OS3.9?        I kind of looking for OS4! BTW, OS4 will go on tour next month        and AmiWest 2003. But, it's a beta version for CSPPC. No clues        about the AmigaOne version. :-/               > DS> runs real nice. So, I wanted to see what KDE's "KPaint" looked like        > DS> -- it banged and crashed!        >         > Losuy compile. It works. Else, use The GIMP. Even if it's free, it's        > not bad for most of the things the average person wants to do in        > image manipulation.               I don't know yet...I had the A1-XE G4 for a month now, and user        progress in exceedingly slow without the AmigaOS. About the only        things I'v been doing is read a lot of 'HOWTO's and play with        the UAE. A lot of stuff is yet to be ironed out -- eventually. =:o        >         > Greetings, Rene Laederach        > email: mousse@snoop.alphanet.ch        >         > --- MBSE BBS v0.36.00 (Linux-i386)        > * Origin: Snoop InfoSystems - a Micro$loth Free Zone 4ever (2:301/133)               Looking good :)        :Dennis                      | AmiQWK 2.9 - FREEWARE |       ...
