   What's with AmigaOne

   Hi all, Sunday May 4
Ooh yeh, the A1-XE stuff! :)
Well, it's PPC Linux. Actually, Debian Linux 3.0 refered to as
"woody." I bootup into to a Debian Login/Shutdown requester screen.
I login as 'root' dir and enter the password. Debian will boot the
KDE desktop. Vola! Your in KDE world. There are three icons on the
screen: Trashcan, Debian, and Home. Home opens the desktop and UAE
   window.
From here it's my choice to do Linux things, like play with Python
from a shell, or run 'Wierd Science', I'm sorry -- UAE, and emulate
an Amiga. Wierd -- emulate an Amiga on an Amiga -- science! The UAE
is .0.8.22, the lastest experimental one. On the x86 ME PC, I have it
doing J. Battle's "Amiga In A Box." The WB in the A1, however, is not
as good looking as AIAB. Kind of drabby looking. WB and KS are vintage
   40.x! OS 3 anybody? I think not! "Where's the OS4? ( Zzzz!) PPaint
runs real nice. So, I wanted to see what KDE's "KPaint" looked like
   -- it banged and crashed!

Did anyone catch issue#35 of 100%Amiga CD. The Cover story was
AmigaOne was cancelled and AmigaTwo was in the works. Nice April
Fools joke huh! I kind of took it with keen interest. The CD from
Software Hut came a week before the AmigOne. 8-| Yeh, boing!

I see on on my last list of A1 stuff I forgot the NCom3 card, and
default sound card. I haven't too much on that. No manuals came with
the machine. So there isn't any quick references. I'm going to get a
little more familiar with it before jumping into networks. I'm kind
of like to startout in OS4.( Zzzz!)

I see Todd wants to know the price? BTW, it's not in any local
store. I bought mine, just about a year ago, from Compuquick, Ohio.
The original order was for a G3. Upgraded to G4 last November Price?
Too much: A 1GHz Celeron x86 with same setup is half as much as
the A1. Go price a brand new 060 card with max memory and it's about
the price of the x86 box. So, you can have two X86 boxes in your home
or one PPC AmigaONE. A network of two x86s <=> stand alone AmigaOne.=:o
Hey, that's not funny. Where's that OS4 ? (Zzzz!) Until it wakes up,
I have only harware officiated by Amiga Inc, but really built and done
by Eyetech. I bought the A1 to replace the old classic A2000. Price
   was not a consideration.

   Regards, Dennis
