WvV> Now that I have red your message it's clear to me, you look to fidonet
WvV> with your experience from the distant past. Current fidonet is a very
WvV> much different thing. For starters it's so much smaller than in it's
WvV> hayday. Only 10% of the nodelist is left, and if you count active
WvV> participants it's even smaller. Further more as almost all links use
WvV> the internet at zero cost, anyone can connect every where. So all this
WvV> hierarchical structuring is mostly irrellevant, and moderators, where
WvV> they still exist, have no real power at all. Just the mere existence of
WvV> moderators frustrates the smooth operation of the network and seems to
WvV> cause more aggrevation between the participants of an area.

Moderators should keep things on an even keel and keep the script kiddies and
other doofuses in line. What you seem to be advocating is anarchy and chaos.

WvV> Further: the north american backbone (not "the backbone" as you said),
WvV> has made itself irrelevant since the fidonews coup, and the "genesis"
WvV> of the fidoweb as a concequence. So the elist because it isn't
WvV> recognized as being part of fidonet, and only part of Z1 uses it, is
WvV> even less relevant. It's mostly a mausoleum of dead areas anyway. There
WvV> seem to be more areas than active users!

That's only because you are in Europe. Certainly there are more areas than
intelligent users - that's a give and has been since the decline of BBSes in
   general.

WvV> So let's do without a moderator and rules in this area, it has existed
WvV> without it for more then 10 years now. The thought of having an

Let's not. With no rules and no limits then chaos results and this might as
well be ALL POLITICS or one of the religion echoes ..... even the Flame echo
has (well, had, last time I looked) amoderator to keep things from getting too
   far out of hand.

WvV> election is even more rediculous, it would only aggrevate things even
WvV> more. No good will come of it and would be a waste of energy!

I agree on the election. Allen has listed the echo and he is the moderator.
End of discussion. Whether you or I like it or not. It's the way of Fido.

WvV> And mind you, I don't object to you trying to revive the area. But you
WvV> can do that just as well without being the moderator. So put your
WvV> energy into that and drop the moderator nonsense...

Do you own any Amigas or have anything positive to contribute?

Personally, I have several: an A500, an A2500/030, an A3000T (which I just
revived) and an A4000 for which I am seeking parts and may have found a
source(s) this place sprang back to life.
