HI TOm,              On Wed 2011-Aug-03 19:33, TOM WALKER (1:123/140) wrote to MATT KRANER:              TW> I have about given up on the clubs at least as far as attending       TW> meetings goes. Soem years back before i upgraded I had to sit       TW> throught the Clubs Head VE diatribe about why No Code techs were not       TW> Real Hams. But saddly there are those types in almost every Club.       TW> the El Cajon California Ham Club in hte last year had to tolerate a       TW> very nasty Fued that almost destroyed the club. In fact it split and       TW> a group statrrted thgeir Own Lalkside California Ham colub. but       TW> enough hard feelings were left behind that they drove off and caused       TW> the Presidnet Elected by the Membership after the split to resign.              That's a bummer. The Delta amateur radio club in MEmphis       does quite a bit to encourage new licensees, numerous       classes offered throughout the year, etc.              My disappointment in the no code general and abobve is that       they lost the code requirement for the extra, which imho       should have been retained, at the 5 wpm level at least.       MOrse is a part of our radio heritage, just as you must       learn about fast scan television a bit, calibrating test       equipment, etc. to get that extra you should have a bit of       knowledge of the code.                     I do a lot with public service and humanitarian aid ham       radio, and my big frustration is people who refuse to learn       to operate with some discipline but want to participate in       these activities. Part of participating or utilizing a       directed net is learning to pay attention to the       instructions of net control, etc.              Anybody who's actually interested can find info on my main       ham radio acativities by paying a visit with your browser to 14300.net on the       web.              73 de nf5b               Richard       ---        * Origin: (1:116/901)    |
