Tom and Roy,              In the 1970's there was a Ham that worked as a Repair Technician for       someone.              He also sold VHF and UHF Radios made by Standard to Hams from his home.              He sawed the Printed Circuit Board from inside one of the Standard       Radios He sold in half, to seperate the Receiving portion from the       Transmitting portion and used them to build a 2 Meter Repeater.              He put up a 1 1/4 Meter Repeater and a 3/4 Meter Repeater too!              I'm not sure I ever heard if those Repeaters were constructed the same       way as His 2M set up was or if he used some other Brand of Radios for       those two repeaters on the higher frequencies than the 2M set up was.              He put them up so those three Bands could have some activity on them       to keep Hams from losing those portions of the Amateur Radio Bands.              A lot of local Hams bought Standard Radios and other radio gear from       him.              He also sold Larson Antennas and did Repairs to Amateur Radios for us       Hams, he used a Cushman Frequency Meter at work so He got one for His       Repait Shop.              I bought another Hams Regency HR-2 2M Radio when he was leaving the       area for a job in South Korea. So I got on 2M in Nov 1976.              I did buy a Larsen 5/8 wave Antenna and a Magnetic Mount for it from       the 2M Ham Repeater owner, also he placed the Coax under the carpet of       my car to the trunk so I could mount the Antenna at the back of my car       and when I parked I could stow it in the trunk, along with my Regency       radio, so not to advertise that I used a radio because there were a lot       of radios stolen from automobiles back during that period.              I got the antenna from him, instead of getting it at another Amateur       Radio Shop in the area, because of his favor to all the Hams in the       area by putting up the Repeaters for us to use.              His Repeaters were free for us Hams to use Without Any Renumeration,       and I didn't feel I was Paying Him for my use of his 2M RPTR when I got       the Larsen Antenna from him.              I was giving my business to a local Ham who sold Amateur Radio Gear       from his home.              In 1978 when I got the Kenwood TS-520S and Hustler Mobile Antenna,       I used a Quick Disconnect I had on the Antenna Spring Mount, so I could       put the Hustler Antenna in the trunk also.              My Ham Friend with the TS-520 showed me how he mounted it in his car       with a Metal Plate attached to Half of a Barn Door Hinge.              The other Half of the Hinge was fastened to the Floor of the car,       and was Threaded so when the TS-520 was in the car, he took a Socket       Wrench to tighten 1/2" Bolts on each side of the Hinge to keep the rig       in the car.              I did the same thing and carried a Socket Wrench with an 4" Extension       so I could place the TS-520S I used in the car, and remove it to store       it in the trunk when I wanted to.              On a trip, I would take the TS-520S out of the car and put it in the       Motel Room with us. It wasn't hard to do at all, now Lugging the rig       into the room did take me some effort. .... ..              ... If the facts do not conform to the theory, they must be disposed of.       --- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.49       --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux        * Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1)    |
