In a message dated 04-16-14, Tom Walker said to Roy Witt:              Hello Tom,              Even though you didn't ask me I can give my view on the G5RV antenna.              RW> TW> Well even though the Balan Losses are measureed in tenths of a DB              RW>The question isn't about loss, it's about matching an antenna to its feed.              TW>OK then Mr Antenna Expert. Please enlighted the group how the G5RV       TW>dipole antenna can use either 300 or 450 ohm Twinline and make both       TW>the 75 Ohm Dipole Antenna and the 50 ohm Transmitter happy without       TW>using BALUN              The G5RV antenna is a compromise as are most multiband antennas.       The roots of this antenna stem from the center fed Zepp antenna that is       also a multiband antenna.              Instead of using a transmatch at the end of the open line or twin-lead       feeder the antenna is slightly shortened and the feeder cut to a fixed       length. NOTE: if the feeder is other than a 300-400 ohm line, as 240 ê       twin-lead the feeder length must be shortened by the velocity factor.              The feedpoint impedance will vary on the different bands but the feeder       will act as a matching transformer when the feedpoint impedance is high       and as lengthening of the antenna when the length of it is shorter than       reuired for the band in question.              On some bands the feeder will be an odd 1/4 w/l or close to it, and act       as a matching transformer, on others just as a feeder.              The antenna isn't very effective at 40 and 80 meters but is better than       no antenna.              CU L8ER,              Holger              ___        * MR/2 2.30 * If it ain't broken, let me take a crack at it.              --- PCBoard (R) v15.22 (OS/2) 2        * Origin: Coming to you from the Sunny Aland Islands.
