Greetings TOM!               RW> TW>> Well even though the Balan Losses are measureed in tenths of a        RW> TW>> DB the loss of the old single band half wavelength "Coax Balun"        RW> TW>> is even less!!!               RW>> The question isn't about loss, it's about matching an antenna to its        RW>> feed. Your xmitter is tuned to match the 50Ohm coax, but the antenna        RW>> isn't resonant until it is matched with coax lengths in any length.        RW>> Once you get the antenna tuned, you will only have losses in your        RW>> coax, no matter how long or short it is.               TW> OK then Mr Antenna Expert.              I'm no expert by any means.               TW> Please enlighted the group how the G5RV dipole antenna can use either        TW> 300 or 450 ohm Twinline and make both the 75 Ohm Dipole Antenna and        TW> the 50 ohm Transmitter happy without using BALUN              I'm not familiar with a G5RV, basically because I don't like dipoles.       Howevr the manufacturer, like so many other antenna manufacturers probably       uses a propriatary device to match the antenna, probably using a internal       balun.              If you were to take a mobile antenna with a loading 'device' (used to make       the antenna a 5/8ths wave) in the middle of the verticle rod, like those       used in VHF or UHF or even CB antennas and cut them apart, there's nothing       there. They probably use a mix of chemical ingredients that is RF excited.              And I'm not talking about the wire-wrapped coil that you can physically       see. Like the one that I made from stainless wire that has a coil in the       center to make it a dual band antenna and resembles a commerically made       similar antennas. One of those still sits on the window-sill here and is       connected to my IC3210a, VHF/UHF dual bander.                      Have a day!               R\%/itt - K5RXT                                                 --- GoldED+/W32 1.1.5-31012       --- D'Bridge 3.99        * Origin: HAM Radio, aka Amateur Radio. 804?
