In a message dated 04-15-14, Tom Walker said to Holger Granholm:              Hi Tom,              HG>RW>I used to think that way when I was an experimenting CBer c1965, chasing       HG>RW>high SWR with coax lengths in intervals of 'wavelengths' and parts       HG>RW>thereof.              HG>TW>BUT it CAN be done. And while the point may be arguable I suspect       HG>TW>that WHEN YOU find the Perfect length it would be less loss than THE       HG>TW>BALUN              HG>The antenna tuner is a misnomer since what it actually is is an       HG>"Impedance matching network". Tuning the antenna has to be done       HG>at the antenna itself.              TW>This discussion is not about "Tuners" but about Balun Matching or       TW>1/2 wavelength Coax matching a dipole              Well then, where does this discussion of "coax lengths in intervals of       wavelengths...." come from.              Agreed that you can make a 1:4 balun by using a 1/2 wavelength coax to       both transform a higher impedance feedpoint to the coaxial feeder AND to       balance the unsymmetric coax feeder to a balanced feedpoint.              But this chat of cutting/adding lengths of coax to a feedline to find a       point where the SWR is low doesn't lead anywhere. As I stated the same       bad SWR still exists along the length of the coax feedline.              CU L8ER, Sam, OH0NC              aka Holger              ___        * MR/2 2.30 * 200-year old champagne and beer, found on the Aland Islands.                            --- PCBoard (R) v15.22 (OS/2) 2        * Origin: Coming to you from the Sunny Aland Islands.
