EV>> BK> it. My interest was always in the building side of it. Built a       EV>> BK> lot of equipment, got it working and then went on to building       EV>> BK> other things.              EV>> BK> I sold a lot at hamfests.              EV>>Bob,              EV>>It's been a long time since I built any electronic gear.              EV>>Once in a while I would see a Popular Electronics article       EV>>that I just had to have, but that was a long time ago, too.               TW> Same Here. But all of my homebuilt projects were simple        TW> kits. Things like an Akkied Radio Function and a couple of        TW> Heathkit/Radio Shack CD ignition modules.               I did build a lot of radio shack kits. A couple of them were        radio shack frequency counters. They actually worked pretty        well, only they needed a bit of modification. I replaced the        60hz powerline base with a 100HZ crystal oscillator chip. That        and modified the input amplifier, which was much more an        impedance buffer, with one that actually did amplify. Worked        fine.               Also built a bunch of CW active filters. I wanted to buy one or        two from MFJ, but when I wrote up the order I found shipping was        $5 each on a $10 kit. Didn't even combine shipping. I was so        outraged I looked at the schematic, found it was a commonly used        basic design.               So I bought a couple experimenter's PC boards at radio shack,        some parts, and built a couple. Found, even allowing $10/hr for        my time it was costing me about $5 each to build them. Sold a        number of them at hamfests at that price.               That's what unreasonable shipping costs did to them.                     BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn              ...
