Dustin...               DS> The character issue would be if you have a criminal record...such as        DS> felony crimes. I know of a ham radio operator who lost his license because               DC@> I understand now. Thanks for your informative reply.               This is what the term "Elmering" means...mentoring prospective or new ham       radio operators of "good amateur practice"...or correcting long time hams of       poor operating habits...which are destroying the hobby.                The thing is, when an examinee signs the form at a license exam session,       they are certifying that "they agree to obey all that is in Part 97 of the       FCC rules". Sadly, there seems to be an increasing number of those who feel       that "rules are made to be broken".                Personally, I prefer "The Amateur's Code", written by the late Paul M.        Segal, W9EEA, in 1928...that notes "the station operation is above reproach".               Being labeled an "Elmer" is the highest complement one can get in amateur       radio...and it is the "duty" of every ham radio operator. While we were all        beginners at one time...on "poor operating practices", once is an accident...       twice is questionable...and more than that, they should know better.              Daryl, WX1DER              ...
