   When I was in the Poway radio club, there was a lot of old timers (to me   
   (35yo) at the time) coming on board because of the club's training and   
   recruiting program. They were retired guys (some in their 80s), mostly   
   from Rancho Bernardo who had nothing better to do. Most were Technicians   
   because of the 13wpm code hurdle, but they were happy to use the repeater   
   and help in other ways (field day). They're SKs now, but they stayed   
   active for the most part. It's never too late to get involved.
