   I'm with you, the mindless memorization is to blame imho.   
   That, and the folks who push getting your ham license as a   
   form of continuing education on the job.  YEs I believe in   
   the value of ham radio as an emergency comms tool, but   
   damit, these folks from the 'agencies" who push their   
   employees to get a ham license who aren't really into ham   
   radio do us no justice.  They get a license, then never do   
   anything with it.   
      
   A lot of that post could be apropos to fm ops too.
