In a message on Friday 05-26-16 Mike Luther said to Ian Mclaughlin:              Hi Mike,              ML> Maybe the oldest ham still here in FidoNet! When the US Extra Class       ML> was first created I was the youngest ham radio operator to ever get       ML> one in 1952. Originally as Novice WN5WQN and then as General W5WQN              TNX for your interesting life story, both as ham and as professional.              However, there are several OT's (oldtimers), among us Fidonet users.              Just to mention a few of us are; Tom Walker, (callsign?) born 1931,       Jean Parrot, VE2NIC, and myself, OH0NC born 1931. Probably there are       others, that I don't know the age of.              Tom and Jean frequent the WIN95 echo, as I do too when there is activity.              I got my license while doing my compulsory military service 1951, first       as OH2OJ because my home was in the finnish capital Helsingfors       (Helsinki).              1957 I moved to Mariehamn, on the Aland Islands, and got the call OH0NC,       while my XYL (SK), received her ticket in may 1957 as OH2QJ which changed       to OH0ND but upon request was changed to OH0YL, being the only female ham       on the land Islands.              The activity on Fidonet has hit an all time low, with messages only in       two or three echoes, and most of the messages seem to have made the trip       via Z3, but not all of them.              I will however continue to run the HAM-BOX BBS, as a service to my users.                     73 de Sam, OH0NC              aka Holger              ___        * MR/2 2.30 * Personal Computing ... A Terminal Disease.                     --- PCBoard (R) v15.22 (OS/2) 2        * Origin: Coming to you from the Sunny Aland Islands. (2:20/228)    |
