   Look up the idea of "tyranny of the majority" and you'll see why we have a   
   Constitutional Republic and not a Democracy.   
      
   Under a standard Democracy, if 51% of the people vote to take your property   
   away, then it gets taken away.  Under a Republic, if 51% of the people vote to   
   take your property away, they can't because there's a higher law that prevents   
   it.
