   Many, many years ago, before South Asian migration was as big in this part   
   of the country, I remember having several discussions with someone who   
   supposedly had an "IT degree."  They were claiming that immigrants were   
   "taking their jobs" and they couldn't get one.  He meant those from South   
   of the border.   
      
   When I pointed out that the jobs they were taking where harvesting fruits   
   and veg, working on horse farms, etc., he said he believed they were taking   
   jobs from other Americans who were then taking jobs slightly better, etc.,   
   and that ripple effect was eventually causing his professional office job to   
   be taken.   
      
   I would point out that (1) the jobs the immigrants were taking were mostly   
   ones Americans didn't want to do, and (2) the ones "squeezed up" could only   
   take his job if they were also qualified.   
      
   I was eventually convinded that it was all just a cover for spending his   
   life living with his parents.
