I will not use any of the quoted material. I will discuss
the question.
Just about all drugs are "poisons" to some, and I am not
exaggerating the inclusiveness. I have been taking proton
pump inhibitors for more than a decade; they reduce my first
line of defense against some diseases.
A good friend of mine died from penicillin; it killed many,
but it saved many more. There is no such thing as a safe
effective drug; you have to weigh the risks and benefits.
In many cases, there is reason to require vaccination of all,
or nearly all, as vaccination is not complete, but it gives
"herd immunity", and prevents the spread of a disease.
I believe it is the individual who needs to make the decision
taking into account all of the consequences, but in cases
in which public health is involved, as the spread of disease
or the development of disease organisms resistant to treatment,
that can override. However, I reject the right of society to
prevent an individual from harming himself; this gets overdone,
and there is disagreement about harm. Harming others is the
only proper concern here.
