                               Riker's Dream
                              By Daniel Wynne
                        Dedicated to Rebecca Lundin

A long, rectangular table sat in the middle of a briefing
room on Space Station Prostanit. SS Prostanit was a small space
station located on the planet Gulliver. The Space Station was
occupied by a small group of scientists who were studying an odd
group of organic life which had recently been discovered. The
Space Station was usually dead, but today, in this one large
room, holding an equally large table, it was bustling. Around
the table sat the most important ambassadors and presidents from
90 planets in the Federation. The room was filled with the
murmur of voices as people engaged in small talk with whomever
was closest to them, only one voice could be made out distinctly,
it was that of Lwaxana Troi's.
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Council, I am hear today to
brief you on the new, literal wonder drug of the future."=20
Admiral Jones said, his voice was full of excitement, as people
hushed and looked up giving him their full attention. "As you
will learn today, a new drug has been formulated, which literally
holds the key to eternal life."
A gasp filled the room and voices, this time louder than
before shot up with excitement. "Isn't it dangerous to offer
eternal life?" A voice shot up.
"Yes, Indeed." Admiral Jones agreed. "So if you will all
please quiet down for a few minutes, I will explain the drug in
detail." Admiral Jones took a deep breath before continuing. =20
This drug is not digested and then, gives eternal life, it does,
however, cure every ailment known to man kind from heart problems
to a stubbed tow. The drug is injected and then diffuses out
through the blood stream, searching for all irregularities and=20
then repairing them, as good as new, with no side affects as far
as we can tell. Now surely eternal life would pose problems with
population control and other such things, so before this drug is
released or announced to the public, a team of valued federation
members is set with the task to make up regulations for use of
this drug. We are toying with the idea of only administrating
the drug to those under a certain age, or something along those
lines."
"What would stop this drug from being sold on the black
market to people of all ages." Shouted another voice.
"That is our other concern, but we assure you, this drug
will not be released until all precautions have been taken."
Meanwhile, thousands of light years away, a Cardassian
Warship warps through the galaxy.
                                  ******
Beverly Crusher leapt through the door to Ten Forward and
hopped over to a table in the other end of the room. Guinan
shuffled over to her almost as instantly as the good doctor sat
down. =20
"Your not the usual kind we get around here, Doctor." Guinan
said with a pleased smile on her face. "What can I get for you?"
"Oh, nothing right now, I am waiting for Wes, he's coming up
for his Birthday."
"Ahh, well than I'll leave you alone to your little family
reunion." Guinan replied and shuffled off. It couldn't have
been more than five minutes before the now five foot ten inch
tall, long, slender body of Wesley Crusher poked through the
door. =20
"Mom!" He yelled a little louder than he had intended, but
it didn't matter since there wasn't anyone else in Ten Forward at
the time.=20
"Hey Wes!" She said, getting up and giving him a hug.=20
"It's great to see you."
They both took their seats and now a new booth, closer to
the door. Guinan began to shuffle over once more but turned
back, deciding this wasn't the best time to invade.
"Did you hear about Andusept, the new wonder drug.?"=20
Beverly asked.
"Yeah, the new drug under testing and Space Station Pro-
stanit, I haven't heard it called something as strong as a wonder
drug though."
"Well, I did some testing with it on the Enterprise, and
=66rom what I've heard otherwise, there isn't anything it can't
cure. It's known as they key to Eternal Life."
"Eternal Life is a scary thought." Wes said.
"Indeed." The commanding voice of Captain Picard said.=20
"And I don't like over hearing it being discussed in the Enter-
prise's most popular lounge."
Wes looked around mockingly, showing that they were the only
three people in there, and then looked up to the captain, looked
him straight in the eye and said "Maybe you wouldn't over hear as
many things if you didn't stand right above people and
eavesdrop."
Picard looked slightly surprised, and for the first time he
was caught off guard. "Indeed." he said, a little confused as to
how this once meager, shy, teenager, has managed to scrape up the
courage to literally insult a Star Ship Captain.
     "Wes" said his mother, shocked.
"It's quite all right Doctor." Picard assured her. "I see
Mr. Crusher will make a fine captain, but Doctor, I have more
important things to talk to you about, I need you in the briefing
room in 5 minutes, I am sorry to cut your visit short."
Wesley and Beverly gave each other odd glances over the
'fine captain' remark. Picard pretended not to notice that they
were aware of his pathetic cover-up.
"Oh captain, Wes will only be here a few days, I hope this
isn't serious."
     "I'm afraid it is."
"Oh dear, I request permission to be excused." =20
     "I don't believe that's possible, five minutes doctor..."=20
And with that Picard left.
The Doctor turned to her son. "Oh Wes, I'm so sorry..."
"It's ok mom, I want to catch up with some of my old friends
anyway...I'll see you tonight."
                                  ******
All the Senior Officers sat around the curved table of the
briefing room. Lieutenant Commander Data was standing at the
front about to give his presentation. Directly in front of him,
on his left side were Captain Picard, To Picard's left was Will
Riker, than Deanna Troi, and Beverly Crusher. Across from Picard
was Geordi La Forge, Lieutenant Worf, and an empty chair where
Data sat.
Deanna Troi felt a cold rush go through her entire body,
followed by a warm rush and then was filled with a tingling that
lasted for about 5 seconds. Will Riker grabbed her shoulder and
whispered into her ear. "Are you all right." =20
Deanna nodded, but Data was curios. "Is there a problem,
Counselor." He asked.
"No." She said, shaking her head. However Deanna was
worried, she had been having spells like this all week, which
would only mean one thing. However, She then seemed to be normal
as usual, so Data continued. =20
"There is a small Space Station on planet Gulliver that has
been doing research on organic Material. They have come up with
a new drug that is capable of curing every ailment known to man.=20
     "Surely not" Riker said.
"I assure you, it is true." Replied Data. "I have examined
it myself along with Doctor Crusher, and there are no side
affects. However, there is a problem. A Cardassian Warship
piloted by Captain Bashu, during a briefing on the drug, attacked
the space station, beamed into the conference room, and open
fire. Many Ambassadors were injured, few were killed, however
the computer module holding all information on the drug was
stolen. The backups were plagued with a Cardassian Computer
Virus. The Enterprise is ordered to retrieve this drug by any
means necessary, by seeking out the Cardassian=20
ship. Also, among those injured is the Daughter of the Fifth
house, Ms. Lwaxanna Troi."
     "Mother" Deanna gasped. =20
"Wouldn't you know, if anything happened to your mother"
Picard asked.
"Well Captain." She said hesitantly. "This just confirms
my fear, I believe, I am in...Phase."
"I see." Picard said slightly shocked. "Well, Counselor.=20
You may be on Sick Leave for as long as you see fit, Data, see to
it that Lwaxanna is..." Picard paused. "Beamed aboard and
brought to sick bay." He continued in this commanding fashion.=20
"Doctor, I want you to see to her recovery yourself. Number One,
get any information you can on this Cardassian captain Bashu,
contact the Cardassian President and Star Fleet Command and
notify him of such events, you may want Data's help with this.=20
Ok people, we have work to do." And with that, the conference
was over.

                                 Chapter 2

Deanna Troi and Captain Picard walked down the long corridor
that branched off the corridor that the Turbolift opened up onto.=
=20
They were on their way to Deanna's quarters.
"In Phase." Picard murmured to Deanna. "What exactly does
this mean, in Phase?"
"Well, Captain, in means, in a few short hours, I will be at
my sexual peak. My sexual desires will almost be uncontrollable,
so it is important that I stay in my quarters. I will be in the
full height of my phase for, I would say, the next 4 days, then
my sexual desires will slowly decline."
"Ah, so it's sort of like being in heat."
     "To put it bluntly, yes."
"Very well, Counselor. I really could use your help as soon
as possible, so whenever you see fit, I'd appreciate your servic-
es."
     "Certainly, Captain."
Deanna Troi turned around and entered her quarters wondering
what the captain meant by 'her services', only to find Wesley
Crusher sitting in a chair, 100 feet across the room.
"WESLEY?!" Deanna yelled loudly, partly surprised and partly
worried.
"Hello, Deanna." He said, getting up and giving her a hug.=20
He pulled back and looked her in the eyes. "How are you."
Apparently she was pretty good, because within seconds their
friendly embrace was a passionate kiss. It wasn't long before
they had found Deanna's bed.
                                  ******
"Sick Bay to Bridge." Chimed over Picard's Comm Badge.
     "Bridge, what is it Doctor."
     "Our Betazed guest it here."
     "How is she, Doctor."
     "She is recovering, nicely."
With that the doors to the bridge swept open and in strolled
Lwaxanna Troi.
"JEAN-LUC" She yelled, loudly and excitedly. "How wonderful
to see you again."
"Lwaxana." Picard said and nodded his head. "I hope you are
feeling... all right."
"Oh it was simply frightful, those damned Cardassians, how
dare they shoot at ME, ME!"
"Well, thank goodness your life was spared."
"Yes, but that poor Admiral Jones, wasn't so lucky."
     "That is unfortunate." Picard nodded.

"All is well, I am very pleased, now that Deanna is in
Phase."
It's nice to see Lwaxana has her priorities straight. Picard
thought. Of course Lwaxana knew that, but ignored it.=20
"Well yes." Picard grimaced. "However the timing couldn't
be worse."
"That's why I'm hear, Captain" Lwaxana said gleefully. "I
want to take Deannas place in reading emotions, as you know, I
can do much more."
Picard wanted to say no, he tried to think of every possible
reason he could, but when it came down to it, he really NEEDED
the help. "Thank you, Lwaxana." He said, finally.
"You don't want me here, Captain."
     "No, but I need you."
     "I understand." Lwaxana said, nodding.
Picard showed Lwaxana Deanna's usual chair, then turned and
hit his communicator. "Bridge to Sick Bay."
"Sick Bay here." Came crushers voice.
"Go check on Deanna, will you Beverly."
     "Of course." She said.
"Captain" Data said, "a ship is approaching us at Warp 2."
     "Class?" Picard shot out.
"Scanners indicate, it is the USS Enterprise, NCC1701-A,
sir?"
"What!" Picard shouted, jumping up from his chair. "On
screen!"
A blurb of white appeared in the distance, and gradually was
getting bigger.
     "Magnify!"
The USS ENTERPRISE NCC1701-A filled up the main viewer, as
it came to a halt.=20
"Data, alert Star Fleet that this ship has been stolen.=20
Open Hailing frequencies Mr. Worf"
"Captain, this is not be the NCC1701-A of the present, that
ship was destroyed some time ago." Data informed the captain.
"Yes of course." Picard muttered as the face of Captain
James T. Kirk appeared on the screen.
"Greetings Captain, how may I be of service."
                                  ******
Counselor Troi's door chimed, she was too busy to notice.
"Computer, Emergency Entrance Access Chief Medical Officer
Beverly Crusher".
The doors slid open and Beverly walked in.
"Beverly!" Deanna yelled, pulling the covers up over her
partially naked body.
"Deanna, don't. You'll regret this." Beverly said, grab-
bing the robe off the floor to throw to Deanna. She then spotted
another robe and went to get it as well.
"This looks just like Wes's robe."
She looked up to see Wes's half embarrassed half petrified
face looking back at her.
"Wes..." she murmured dropping his robe. "Wes?" She re-
peated. She was shocked now.
"Is she mad?" Wes whispered to Deanna.
"I don't know." She responded looking up at him.
Dr. Crushers face turned bright red. Her fists were clen-
ching and she was shaking uncontrollably. "DEANNA HOW COULD
YOU!" She shrieked.
"You don't understand." She said, trying to be as
sympathetic as possible. It's amazing how hard it is to be
sympathetic to the mother of the person who is sitting naked next
to you.
"I'm a grown man, mom." Wes said uncertainly.
     "YOU'RE 19!" Beverly shrieked back. "YOU'RE STILL A
CHILD!"
"So!?" Wes was getting angry. "YOU WERE 19 WHEN YOU HAD
ME!" I CAN MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE."
"I don't know you at all anymore Wes, you've been on this
ship 5 minutes and you're already taking advantage of the most
vulnerable women here." Beverly turned around and walked out the
door, really wishing she could slam it. The doors close, Wes
started to get up but Deanna pulled him back down.
                                  ******
"My, he is a strange one." Lwaxana whispered loudly to the
captain. "So many emotions, so forceful. And I do sense a con-
siderable amount of sexual attraction towards me."
"I am Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S Enterprise..."
"Woa, excuse me!?" Kirk interrupted. Picard looked as-
tounded, he wasn't used to being interrupted. "I am Captain
James T. Kirk of the U.S.S Enterprise."
"There seems to be a problem here." Picard informed
everyone.
"Well, you are a genius, no wonder you're a Star Fleet cap-
tain." Lwaxana added sarcastically. =20
"Captain." Data swiveled around in his chair as he spoke.=20
"James T. Kirk was the captain of the Enterprise NCC1701-A,
eighty-two years ago."
"Am I too believe." Kirk said with slight sarcasm. "That
we have traveled to the future?" =20
"Or we have traveled to the past" Picard reasoned as he
paced the length of the bridge.
It was then that the turbolift doors opened and Beverly
stormed in.
     "Captain." She sighed loudly.
     The captain turned, alarmed.
"Deanna has found a mate, in Wes." She yelled, sitting in
his chair.
"Do all the captains in your time act as therapists on the
bridge?" Kirk said, loving to have the advantage.
"He thinks she's better looking than me." Lwaxana whined.
"Well she is." Kirk admitted in his sarcastic manner.
Picard groaned. "Captain, I think we should meet in
person."
"I'll be right over." Kirk said with a smile, and with that
the screen went back to the view of the U.S.S Enterprise of the
past.
                                 ****** =20
Deanna and Wes were done. He lay there, thinking of recent
events, while Deanna lay beside him stroking his chest.
"I never would have thought!" Wes said, smiling. "That I
would end up in bed with the most beautiful women on the
Enterprise.
Deanna smiled back. "Little Wesley Crusher." She chuckled.=
=20
"I never thought you'd be so good."
He leaned over and kissed her. He had forgotten about his
mother. =20
Riker was in his quarters, Riker was worried. He also liked
the idea of being alone with Deanna when she was in phase. Who
wouldn't?=20
"I bet this will make for some interesting stories back at
the academy." Deanna joked.
"You know me better than that."
     "Now I do."
     They kissed again.
     The door chimed.
     They ignored it.
They were too busy making out.
You'd think they'd learn by now.
"Computer. Emergency entrance 1st Officer William Riker."
The doors chimed and slid open. Riker stepped in.
"Deanna!? Did I come at a bad time?"
Wesley shot up. When he realized who it was he decided to
flaunt it. =20
     "Will." She said, slightly rattled.
Wes through his arm around her and softly nibbled on her
ear, she made a pathetic attempt to brush him away, but she
didn't really mind.
"I'm sorry." Commander Riker said slowly backing out of the
door.
"NO!" Deanna shouted louder than she had intended. She got
up and ripped up the blanket to wrap herself in it. "Wes was
just leaving." They both turned and looked at him.
Wes wished she hadn't ripped up the blankets. He scrambled
across the room were he last saw his boxers. =20
Being in phase had a strange affect on Deanna, it made her
blatantly blunt.
"Will!" She shrieked, amused. "Do I sense that you are
attracted to Wesley." =20
Will and Wes looked up at the same time, it's hard to say
who was more shocked.=20

"You're in phase, you're not sensing straight." Riker said
at last, relieved he had a good excuse in this awkward situation.=
=20
Even in the 2th century people were homophobic. There weren't
any admitted bisexual 1st officers around.
     Deanna nodded smugly.
     Will was embarrassed.
     Lwaxana chuckled.
     Picard looked at her, confused.
     Wes was still naked.
                                  ******
"Ms. Troi, will you accompany me to my ready room, so that
we may await the arrival of our guest?" Picard asked overly po-
lite.
"Of course mon cap=8Ctan." she said while flinging her arm
around him. "But I'm not kissing him."
They walked into Picard's ready room as Worf muttered "Luna-
tic." under his breath.
Kirk was beamed directly to Picard's Ready Room. =20
"Ahh, good. I've always thought Transporter Rooms were a
waste of space." Kirk said, greeting them. Kirk's eloquence is
overwhelming.
     "No you didn't" Lwaxana corrected.
     "Excuse me?"
"No, you didn't. You never thought that about Transporter
Rooms."
     "How do you know that?"
     "I'm Betazed."
     "You're what?"
     "I can read your mind."
     "No you can't."
     "Yes I can."
They'd make a great couple. Picard thought.
     "No..."
"You're embarrassed..." Lwaxana interrupted. "about your
unusually small..."
"I don't have time to argue about this with you." Kirk
snapped and turned to Picard. "Does she have to be here?"
"I sympathize with you, Captain... but it is necessary."=20
The captain really did sympathize with him. "Please, have a
seat."
Kirk sat down after giving Lwaxana a dirty glare. Lwaxana
just smiled and laughed in her head. It echoed.
"According to my second officer, we are currently in my
time." Picard began. "Which means..."
"Which means I'm in the future and need to get back" Kirk
finished.
     "Correct."
"Captain, don't we have larger problems?" Lwaxana boomed
in. She's not good at not participating.
"I don't know, Lwaxana, it seems to me that if this ship,
here today, is not returned, then our very existence will cease.
"Well, considering we DO exist doesn't that mean that some-
how this ship finds its way back."
"We shouldn't be that ignorant." Kirk said. "Time isn't
something we want to play around with."
"Agreed." Picard said standing up. "We should proceed to
the briefing room, all my senior officers will be present. You
may bring some of your officers, if you wish."
"Yes, I would like that." Kirk said as he whipped out his
communicator.
     "Kirk to Enterprise."
     "Enterprise here." came Scotty's voice.
"Mr. Scott, would you and Mr. Spock accompany me here,
please?" =20
     "Aye Captain."
"Well Gentleman, let's go." Lwaxana said eagerly as she
stood up, and walked out the doors of the ready room. Picard and
Kirk gave each other understanding glances as they followed her.
                                  ******
Will Riker was naked when his communicator beeped. "Picard
to Riker."
It took Riker some time to find his communicator.
     "Riker Here."
"Please report to my ready room."
Deanna and Will looked at each other and sighed.
"Later." Will said to Deanna as he began to dress.
     Then Troi's communicator beeped.
     "Picard to Counselor Troi."
     "Troi Here."
"Your presence would be greatly appreciated, more problems
have arisen and I need your input."
Troi looked at Will. "It will keep me innocent if I stay
with you." she said as they both smiled. "I'll be right there
captain." She said louder. Everyone, for one reason or another,
says things louder when they are saying them into the
communicator.
Troi got up with Riker, and started to dress as well. It
took them some time to find all of their clothes, and Troi longer
to fix her hair. They managed to leave within a reasonable
amount of time, and showed up together in Picard's ready room
where everyone was waiting.
Picard looked at Riker and rose an eyebrow.
"I... picked up the counselor on my way to the bridge."=20
Riker was becoming good at making excuses. "Too make sure she
got here o.k." He explained.
"We are grateful she could make it." Picard said, under-
standing.
"My you've been busy." Dr. Crusher snapped, glancing at
Deanna evilly only to be returned by an equally evil glance.
"Everyone." Picard began, not knowing where to start. "I'd
like you to meet our guests. This is Captain James T. Kirk,
Commander Spock, and Commander Scotty of the U.S.S Enterprise
NCC1701-A."
"A" Riker exclaimed only to be followed by an astounded "En-
terprise?" from Dr. Crusher.
"It seems that the Enterprise NCC1701-A has traveled from
the past, to the future." Data explained, everyone was
fascinated.
"That's not all." Picard interrupted. "We still have the
problem with our Cardassian thieves."
"Whatever the problem is, Captain." Scotty jumped in. "I'm
sure we could be of some assistance, we have gotten threw tougher
situations than this in the past."
"An alliance would be logical." Spock said, nodding.
"I agree." Data replied, though he was not being spoken
too.
"You know what they say." Kirk said. "Two Enterprise's are
better than one." Kirk gave his half grin he gives after
cracking a joke. Picard grumbled, he was used to being the one
who made the corny jokes at the end of each segment.

Wesley Crusher was sitting in his quarters not sure if he
was happy, sad, nervous, upset, or crazy. It was like he was
entering a second puberty. He didn't want to face his mom, he
didn't want to face Deanna, he didn't want to face Commander
Riker, it was a good week for everyone to be busy.
When Beverly walked in she was dead. She flopped onto the
couch and looked up at Wesley who was sitting in the chair which
was at a 90 degree angle with the couch. He had played with many
strategies... not coming home, pretending to be asleep, injuring
himself and showing up in sickbay, he was too confused to carry
out any of them successfully.
"Hey Wes." She said, in an "I can't deal with this" tone.
"Hi." He said twiddling his thumbs and looking down at his
feet in a nervous like fashion.
     "Been a long day."
     "Yeah."
     "You hungry?"
     "Nah."
"You must of worked up an appetite."
Wesley didn't get it, Dr. Crusher was glad.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Wesley Crusher asked, looking
up at his mother.
"There are some things you should know, Wes." Beverly said,
while starting to sit up.
"This isn't 'the talk', is it?" Wes said with disgust. "I
think it's a little late. It's not like you caught me running a
pornographic program on the holodeck.
"Not yet." She whispered to herself. Wes heard her, but
didn't remark. He wasn't sure if she meant at this rate it could
happen, or she knew he HAD run them, and he didn't want to find
out.
"Deanna is, in phase." Beverly told him, with a serious
look on her face.
"In Phase...?" Wes said, questioning what she meant.
"For a few days she will be at her sexual peak..."
     "I'll say."
Beverly ignored the remark. "She is willing to have sex
with anyone. She needs a mate. She is in a particularly
difficult type of phase. She is half human, so her human
emotions and desires get in the way. For a full Betazoid, they
simply require a mate, they want marriage. In Deanna's case,
she's looking for sex.f
Wes was mad. "So what you are saying is that the only
reason Deanna would be interested in a low life like me is
because she has some disease!? I'm sorry mom ..."
"It's not a disease!" Beverly interrupted. "She's IN
PHASE."
"There has been sexual tension for a long time between the
two of us mom, and I don't appreciate you trying to end something
because you're afraid."
"You're 19!" Beverly yelled at the top of her lungs, as Wes
yelled with her at the same time "you're afraid that I'm growing
up".
"You're 19!" She muttered again almost giving up.
     "I'M ALMOST 20!"
"Do you really think out of all the guys on this ship Deanna
would save herself for you?"
     "Why not!"
"Look, I'm just looking out for your best interests."
"Yeah well we have different ideas on what MY best interests
are." Wesley was irate, he grabbed his jacket and began to run
out of his quarters.
"I just don't want to see you get hurt Wes." Beverly
pleaded, but it was too late. He was gone.

                                 Chapter 3

It had only been 6 hours since Beverly had leapt into Ten
Forward gleefully awaiting the arrival of her son. Now she shuf-
fled in dismally and found a table secluded in the corner. She
sat down and store out the Window. The stars flew towards her
and the disappeared from her view as quickly as they had
appeared. Geordi LaForge and Dr. Crusher were never very close,
but her saw her sitting there and decided to go cheer her up.
"Having troubles, Doctor?" Geordi asked as he sat down.
"They're nothing big..." Beverly responded after a lengthy
pause. "I just don't have anything to occupy my time with, so I
just sit and think about them."
"It's hard being the only two who don't have anything to do,
it just seems that currently there's no need for a ships doctor
or for a chief engineer."
"Or for a over-protective mother." Beverly responded wish-
ing she had something alcoholic to drink. For some reason Guinan
knew that. When Beverly first arrived on the ship, she found it
unnerving that Guinan knew exactly when to approach and when to
stay away, no she had gotten used to it and actually appreciated
it.
"What can I get you two?" Guinan asked.
"Nothing for me thanks." Geordi answered and they both
looked over at Beverly.
"I don't suppose you have anything alcoholic do you, Guina-
n?"
     Guinan smiled. =20
"You're not on duty, are you Doctor?" She asked mockingly.
     "No I'm not." Beverly answered,
"I'll see what I can do." Guinan said as she turned and
shuffled away from their table. =20
     "Having troubles with Wes."
Beverly sighed. "I was checking on Deanna, knowing she was
in a vulnerable state..." Beverly paused, she couldn't think of
the right words to describe her situation. "I found him in bed,
with Deanna."
Geordi suddenly wished he hadn't sat down with the doctor,
and the look on his face showed it. =20
"Ugh..." Geordi stuttered to break the silence. He was
glad when Guinan showed up with Beverly's drink.
"There seems to be a lot going on, don't you two have work?"=
=20
Guinan asked, half confused, half knowing Geordi needed her to
start up a conversation.
"Nothing that requires are assistance." Geordi answered
looking over at the doctor.
"We do have a briefing in 1 hour." Geordi said, starting to
stand up. "I have some things to do before it starts."
Beverly nodded, and the three of them knew Geordi had
absolutely nothing to do before the briefing.
                                  ******
Wesley Crusher didn't know where to go. He knew where his
mother would be, and he knew it wouldn't take long for his mother
to tell most of her friends. Convenient that her friends con-
sisted of all the senior officers. He stumbled into the
observation lounge where it was dark. The observation lounge is
generally dark, but today it was darker than normal. It was also
deserted, or so Wesley thought. This lounge always seemed to be
deserted as well. When the Enterprise was constructed, a place
where everyone could go and chat and look at the stars seemed
like a good idea, but really people can go ANYWHERE to chat and
look at the stars. The observation lounge was a place where you
would go when you really wanted to be alone.
Wesley sat down in a chair and put up his legs. He let out
a deep, long, thoughtful sigh before looking up and seeing
Commander Spock looking out the window.
     "Hello." He said slightly alarmed.
Spock turned his head and looked at him. "Hello."
"You're Ambassador Spock, aren't you." Wesley said, trying
to drum up some conversation with one of the most respective men
in the federation. =20
Spock turned and raised an eyebrow.
"I thought the work you did with the Romulan's and Vulcan's
was not only courageous but inspiring." Wesley added. It never
hurt to compliment an ambassador.
"I am not Ambassador Spock." Commander Spock informed
Wesley. "If an Ambassador Spock does exist, it is I, but in the
future."
Wesley was confused. "I assure you Ambassador Spock does
exist." He said, standing up. "Computer, give a chronological
log of the works of Ambassador Spock."
"Accessing." the computer said as Spock looked over at Wes-
ley. Learning the future is tempting to Spock's human side, but
it was not logical.
"Computer, discontinue previous order." Spock said as
Wesley looked over at him more confused. "Maybe I should have
been more clear, I am Commander Spock, of 82 years ago. I have
time traveled to the present time we are in now, and am currently
trying to devise a solution to get to my own time. If we are not
successful, this very existence will cease."
Wesley stood up and walked out. Apparently Commander Spock
didn't understand the purpose of the observation lounge. Spock
was not offended, he looked up at Wesley as he left the room,
raised an eyebrow, then turned and looked back out at the stars.
"Fascinating." Spock continued as he store into
nothingness. The briefing was scheduled too late, everyone was
sitting around with nothing to do. Unfortunately for Spock, that
included Lwaxana Troi.
"Hello." She said as she strolled up and stood next to
Spock.
     "Hello." He responded politely.
"My they are beautiful, aren't they."
"To a human." Spock remarked shrugging his shoulders,
assuming she meant the stars.
"Oh don't give me that." Lwaxana snapped looking at him.=20
"The human half of you is right at the surface, I can read it
like a book."
Spock had never met a Betazed before.
     "I beg your pardon?"
"Oh goodness gracious, you don't know. I'm Betazed. We can
read minds, emotions, feelings, thoughts, everything."
"Intriguing." Spock said and then turned and looked out at
the Stars again.
     "My you're afraid." Lwaxana continued.
"I assure you I am not."
     "Yes you are, don't deny it." "I am a Vulcan, ma'am. I
have been brought up as a Vulcan, I have been taught as a Vulcan,
In every aspect, I am Vulcan." =20
"And yet you're here petrified beyond belief." Lwaxana
pestered further.
     "I am not." =20
"Oh yes you are, you just don't know what it feels like.=20
All your Vulcan obsession has numbed your emotions."
"If what I am feeling is fear, then it is highly over-rat-
ed."
     "Oh you don't mean that."
     "I don't lie."
"So you still don't mean that. You're as human as I am."
"You are not human, madam." Spock informed her. Whatever
she was, she wasn't logical.
"You know what I mean, I may not have been born on earth,
either were you. We both have emotions, and we both let them
dictate our lives. You just deny it, it's not healthy. You're
like a time bomb ready to explode."
"You would get along well with Dr. McCoy." Spock said in
the same voice he always uses.
"Well then perhaps you should introduce me to him."
     "He would never forgive me."
Lwaxana turned and swept away with a resounding "Humph."=20
She was clearly offended. Spock hadn't intended to offend her
and she knew that, but Lwaxana never passed up a chance to be
dramatic.
                                  ******
Captain Bashu paced the bridge of his ship, Storm-Glory,
worriedly.
"Where are they!" He demanded after a considerable amount of
silence. "They should have found us by now!" He shouted as his
bridge officers looked alarmed.
The bridge of the Storm-Glory was not elaborate. It was
about the size of Picard's ready room, and only held Captain
Bashu, his first officer Prierr, and two helmsmen. The Storm-
Glory, like most Cardassian ships, was a big ship with little
luxuries and a LOT of fire power. The ship could easily match
blows with the Enterprise, and they were waiting for the
opportunity.
"Why haven't they found us!" Bashu demanded.
"Maybe they're not even looking for us?" Prierr suggested.
"They're looking for us." Bashu said grimly as he sat down.=
=20
"They have some sort of plan, they know we are here."
He was right, the Enterprise knew exactly where the Storm-
Glory was, but they were dealing with other problems right now.
"Maybe they are pre-occupied." Prierr offered.
"What are you talking about!" Bashu yelled as he stood back
up. "What could be more important than what WE have." He
slammed his fists down on a small console that was used to
communications with the ship. Prierr and the two helmsman
flinched. "They're making us wait." He said slyly. "They're
going come and get up after we've sweated it out. Well I'm not
worried. Come and get me you spineless federation scum. Come
and get me."
Prierr hated it when his captain got drunk.
"Wouldn't it make sense to sell this information now, before
they get to us?!" Prierr offered again
"Are you kidding." Bashu shot down. The two helmsmen,
however, where beginning to wish Prierr was Captain. "The
Federation will offer us much more for this than any ferrengi
trader."
Prierr nodded, it was true as far as he knew. And he didn't
feel like arguing with Bashu much longer, it got tiresome. "Then
all we can do is wait." He remarked in his usually calm voice.
"Yes.." Bashu finally agreed as he sat down slowly. "Yes,
we'll just sit here and wait."

                                 Chapter 4

Everyone was glad that it was time for the conference,
everyone but Will and Deanna.
"Come back when it's over." Deanna pleaded as Will was j
just finishing getting dressed.
"Of course." He said, leaning down and kissing her. They
both knew he wouldn't.
Geordi had gotten to the conference particularly early.=20
Captain Picard had saw him go in and joined him.
"What do you make of all this, Mr. La Forge?" Picard asked
as he began to sit down.
"It's one big mess." Geordi answered, standing at the front
of the room. "Worse yet there's nothing we can do. We are all
sitting around with more problems then the Enterprise has bolts,
and we couldn't do anything until this conference.
"Well, now maybe we'll get to the bottom of things."
Just then Commander Riker walked in.
"Number 1." Picard said, nodding his head to greet Riker.
"Captain, Mr. La Forge." Riker responded making similar
head motions to the both of them.
It didn't take long for the room to fill. Next came in
Kirk, Scotty, and Spock, followed by Dr. Crusher. Data showed up
next, at exactly the right time. Wesley followed shortly,
Captain Picard had specifically asked Wesley to join them. Of
course Lwaxana was considerably late, not that she was doing
anything important.
"Greetings, all." She said as she bounced in.
"Ahh, Good." Picard said, standing up and offering her the
seat next to him. "Now let's begin. Number 1, what information
were you able to get on Captain Bashu?"
Riker stammered, he had forgotten all about Captain Bashu.
"You did do your task and find out about Captain Bashu,
didn't you Commander?" Picard asked, he was obviously not
pleased.
"I took the liberty of that task, Captain." Data chimed in,
much to Riker's relief.
"I see, well than Mr. Data, the floor is yours." Picard re-
sponded and than sat down after giving Riker a look that showed
his displeasure.
"Captain Bashu." Data began, "Is a Cardassian Military
Specialist who captains the Star Ship Storm-Glory. The ships
previous mission involved running strategic military maneuvers
deep in Cardassian space. He was known to have broken off from
the group in the middle of a session on Star Date 46964.3."
"I see. And did you, Number 1, contact the Cardassian
President or Star Fleet?"
     Riker looked away nervously.
"I did that as well sir." Data responded.
     "Thank you Mr. Data. Continue."
"Star Fleet's nearest ship is 6 days away, so are unable to=20
aid us. They ask for frequent updates on our situation both with
Captain Bashu and Captain Kirk."
     "And the Cardassians..."
"claim to have no knowledge of recent events. Though no at-
tempt was made to contact the Storm-Glory when it broke away from
the others. The Cardassian President simply says they were
running a routine escape mission, and never came back.
"Not very believable." Lwaxana said, opening recent events
for discussion.
     "Indeed." Picard agreed.
"What now?" Kirk shrugged, hoping someone would no the an-
swer.
"It would seem to me we should set our priorities straight."=
=20
Started Picard. "We have two equally important problems here,
the question is, which is more important."
"I believe Captain, " Data corrected. "the question is,
which is more of a threat."
"Meaning..." Mr. Spock began, half clarifying half agreeing
with Data. "which of the two needs to be solved first. In which
case the problem with Captain Bashu would take priority...the old
Enterprise can wait until we are returned, and we can assist with
your current problem."
"Agreed." Kirk said looking to Picard.
"Yes, so we agree we need to solve our problem with Captain
Bashu."
     Everyone nodded.
"Well then, with the exception of Mr. La Forge and Wesley
Crusher, would you all join me on the bridge."
"We'll be in main engineering." Geordi said as everyone
stood up.
"And I'll be in Sick Bay preparing for casualties, should we
have a confrontation with the Cardassians." Crusher added.
Picard nodded in approvement. "Very well."
"We'll beam back to the Enterprise." Kirk started. "That
is, the NCC1701-A. We'll be more useful there."
Picard nodded and they all left.
                                  ******
As the transporters engaged and Kirk, Scotty, and Spock left
the Enterprise, As the turbolift doors opened and Geordi,
Wesley, and Dr. Crusher stepped on, as Picard sat down in his
Command Chair and Riker sat besides him, a spark of life was
created. A small fetus began to grow. Although it was still in
it's earliest stage of development, a new life was on the
Enterprise.
There wasn't any conversation in the Turbo-lift. Geordi
felt=20
like a piece of meat standing in between Dr. Crusher and Wesley.=20
Neither of them wanted to speak with each other right about then,
and they certainly didn't want to be stuck on a turbo-lift
together. It wasn't exactly the time for small talk. When your
very existence as you know it is on the line, you don't talk
about the game last night.
Wesley and Geordi were both greatful when the Turbolift
stopped at sickbay and Dr. Crusher got off.
"Good luck gentlemen." She said without looking at them as
she left the turbolift.
Wesley and Geordi nodded, though she couldn't see it. The
turbolift continued to move and stopped a few seconds later at
Main Engineering.
Meanwhile on the bridge Picard had just lay in a course to
intercept the Cardassian Warship, the Enterprise NCC1701-A was
following close behind.
"Estimated time until arrival?" Picard asked Data, knowing
he'd get the best estimate possible.
     "59 minutes 39 seconds."
     Picard nodded with acknowledgement.
"Well then." Riker said. "I guess all we can do is sit here
and wait."
"Yes..." Picard said slowly sitting down. "Sit here and
wait."
Everyone rolled their eyes, they hated it when their captain
tried to be dramatic.
     The fetus continued to grow.
                                  ******
Captain Bashu was much relieved when he learned that the
Enterprise had started on an intercept course. =20
"The Enterprise should arrive in 58 minutes." the helmsman
informed him.
     "Excellent."
"Captain." The other helmsmen chimed in.
"What is it?" Bashu asked, annoyed.
"My scanners are reading two Enterprise's."
"TWO?" Bashu yelled. "What is this."
"Most likely a sensor failure." Prierr mentioned.
"Yes, put every available man on the repairs of those
censors, we don't want to go into this blind."
"It could be a sensor trick by the federation." Prierr
added again. Bashu hated Prierr for thinking of everything, but
he also needed him desperately.
Bashu sat down now deep in thought.
"Or there may be a cloned Enterprise." he said, looking up
at Prierr. Prierr nodded and Bashu was glad he had come up with
an option. "Very well. Helmsman." Bashu said standing up once
again, Bashu was like a yo-yo. "Set a course that will bring us=20
directly in between the two ships when they arrive.=20
approximately 20 seconds before their arrival I want you in
engage at Warp 7."
"Brilliant!." Prierr said, now standing up. "That way they
won't get a chance to fire, if there are two ships, they won't
have the element of surprise. AND we'll know just how many ships
there really are. Then we'll be able to engage in one of two
pre-planned strategies depending on what we see. That's amazing.=
=20
I'll get to work right away." Prierr yelled excitedly as he ran
off the bridge. Bashu didn't bother to tell him that his real
plan was to run away.
                                  ******

     Lwaxana Troi was impatient.=20
"Can't we go faster, Captain?" She pleaded.
"No!." The captain demanded, he was getting sick of her
pleading. "We need the time to organize a sufficient plan."
"Why don't we just shoot them."
"That's not a good plan!" Picard boomed in annoyance.=20
Riker chuckled.
"Number 1, you are in no position to be laughing. You and I
will have a talk after this is all over."
Riker shut up, but thought evil thoughts about Picard in his
head. Lwaxana found that humorous.
"Why Jean-Luc, you should hear what he's thinking about
you."
Picard turned around and grimaced. =20
The mood on the Enterprise was dismal. The two Enterprise's
warped along side each other towards the Cardassian warship.=20
There was 32 minutes until they intercepted and absolutely
nothing to do but wait. Picard was sitting in his chair
twiddling his thumbs while Riker sat next to him worrying about
what Picard meant by a little talk. Lwaxana found it easy to
entertain herself by talking to Deanna, who really wished she'd
go away.
I know you're pregnant, little one.
     MOTHER.
Does this mean you'll be marrying Commander Riker?
     I'm not sure it's Commander Riker's
The suspense of pregnancy didn't exist on Betazoid. The
second you were pregnant you could FEEL the child inside you, and
so could your closest family members. Of course it didn't make
it any easier. Deanna had some tough decisions to make.
"We are approaching the Cardassian ship." Worf informed
Captain Picard.
"RED ALERT" Riker yelled standing up. Kirks face filled
their view screen.
     "Ready Captain." he said, nodding.
Picard nodded back and cut transmission. It was then that
Captain Bashu warped his ship between the two Enterprise's. They
flew past at Warp 8, as the Storm-Glory left at Warp 7.
"FULL STOP!" Picard yelled, and the Enterprise stopped a
few=20
seconds after the NCC1701-A stopped. "Open hailing freq..."=20
Picard stopped right in the middle of his sentence as he
witnessed Kirk fire upon the Cardassian ship. "GET ME CAPTAIN
KIRK." Picard yelled.
Kirks face filled the screen again.
"This isn't a good time, Captain." Kirk yelled. "FIRE."=20
He shouted to his crew and then turned back to Picard.
"Captain...." Picard yelled but was interrupted by the
sound of the impact of the photon torpedoes hitting the Storm-
Glory. "by firing on them you are starting a full scale war."
"They have something you need, you said we must make sure
the Cardassian's do not sell that at any cost."
"We must talk with them first, we can't just go shooting on
whomever we please."
"Why not, they did. They killed 5 ambassadors and injured
many more."
     "Yes but..."
"But nothing" Kirk yelled as he cut communications.
"They're firing again." Worf said as they looked up and
watched. "Captain, the Storm-Glory's weapons system was shut
down on the first shot. They are completely defenseless."
"Lock phasers on the Enterprise and fire." Picard said
softly, as he sat down and turned his head.
The Phaser blast knocked Kirk's Enterprise onto it's side,
it took a few seconds before they came about and returned fire.
"Shields weakening!, 72%!" Worf yelled as he gripped his
console tightly to keep his balance.
"Very interesting." Bashu chuckled with a huge smile on his
face.=20
The Enterprise NCC1701-A circled the Storm-Glory and came to
a full stop.
"Hail The Cardassians" Picard groaned exasperated.
"I have them, on screen." Worf informed the captain.=20
Bashu's face looked calm. He was smiling slyly.
"There seems to be some confused-communication between you
and the other vessel, Picard."=20
"I assure you tha..." Picard was confused and nerved by
recent events. "That none of this was planned."
"Well, I would be glad to offer any assistance you may
need." Bashu sounded as if he was having fun. "But those blasts
severely damaged our ship."
"I understand..." Picard was cut off by Worf.
"Captain, the Enterprise is powering up its phaser banks!"
Worf yelled with urgency.
Captain Bashu's face quickly changed, he looked worried. He
began to speak quickly and nervously. "Captain, if anything
happens to my crew there could be serious repercussions between
the Federation and The Enterprise."
"I am aware of that Captain, Mr. Worf fire full phasers on
the Enterprise." Picard sounded calm and in control.
Worf took a few seconds to respond. "Captain, the
Enterprise has positioned itself directly behind the Storm-Glory,
we can not fire upon it and avoid the Cardassian ship."
Captain Picard looked down, he was not prepared for this and
wasn't sure what to do.
     "CAPTAIN!" Bashu snapped nervously.
"I KNOW, I KNOW" Picard snapped back. He turned to give
Worf further instructions but was interrupted.
"The Enterprise is firing." Worf said calmly, but obviously
nervous.
Picard swung around and watched. He heard the impact and
saw Captain Bashu fly off the screen as he yelled "CAPTAIN!..."
Picard stuttered before shouting. "Transfer Shields to the
Storm Glory!"
Worf began to fly his fingers across his panel, before he
could transfer the shields, however, the Storm-Glory exploded
into a brilliant swirl of red and orange.
"The Cardassian Vessel has been destroyed sir." Data
informed the Captain without emotion, then turned to him to see
what he would do next.
Captain Kirk's face filled the view screen. He looked
satisfied. "I'm sorry Captain, but I had to do what had to be
done."
     Captain Picard didn't respond.
"I'm sure whatever consequences this will have in the future
you will be able to handle."
Captain Picard still didn't respond, nor had he made eye
contact with Picard.
Kirk looked slightly confused, he began to explain himself.=20
"Captain, we had to do it. They are ruthless killers with a
deadly weapon...we couldn't allow them to get away with their
crimes..."
Picard looked up. "There was years of research on that
ship..."
"Captain, you said yourself we could take whatever measures
necessary to make sure that the information on Space Station
Prostanit didn't fall into the hands of the Cardassians."
"Not only that but there was hundreds of lives."
"It had to be done..." Kirk didn't know what to say, he
wasn't expecting Picard to be this upset.
"You didn't even talk to them. You couldn't hail them, ask
them to return it."
Kirk interrupted "ASK THEM!" He was astounded by the idea.=20
"Captain, Please..,!"
"Negotiate with them.!" Picard was calm as he interrupted
Kirk.
Kirk looked very serious and spoke quickly. "I DON'T
negotiate."
Picard looked away from Kirk. "Mr. Worf..." He paused.=20
"Fire all torpedoes on the Enterprise."
     "Captain?" Worf was confused.
"SHIELDS UP!" Kirk yelled. "Mr. Sulu, get us out of
here..." were the last words Kirk said before he cut
communications, or at all.
"You heard what I said, destroy that ship." Picard said,
pointing.=20
The phaser blast stunned the Enterprise of the past, the
seconds torpedo would have blown it to bits after a few seconds,
the four that followed sped up the process.
"She's gone." Riker said standing up.
"What's going to happen to us?" Lwaxana said, petrified. Her
lower lip trembling.

                                 Chapter 5

Riker eyes opened quickly. He was sweating and breathing
heavily. He felt the warm, moist, breath of his companion
breathing on his neck. =20
"What's wrong?" He heard whispered, as a gentle hand
stroked his muscular back.
"I had the strangest dream." Riker whispered back as he
rolled over.
He was shocked to see the big brown eyes of Wesley Crusher
looking back at him, but he wasn't disappointed. He wrapped his
arm around Wesley's waist and told his story.
"I dreamed I was 1st officer of the federations flagship,
and that we were fighting with the Cardassians."
Wesley chuckled softly. "You are the 1st officer of the
Enterprise, and you did fight the Cardassians."
"And the old Enterprise?" Riker said, sitting up and very
alarmed.
"It all happened. Nothing changed though. We don't know
why. You hit your head leaving the bridge, mom said that you may
be confused when you woke up considering recent events."
Riker was very confused, he lay back down and looked back at
Wesley. Things we just beginning to come back to him. "Does
your mom know about us?" He asked.
"Mom was in such a state after I told her I was going to be
a father, I didn't think it was a good time to tell her I was
sleeping with the ships 1st Officer. Besides, I didn't know this
was going to happen."
Riker really wished he knew what was going on. He convinced
himself it was a joke, until Wesley rolled over, half on top of
him. They looked at each other for a brief second and then began
to kiss. It was more wonderful than Riker had imagined, and he
had thought about it a lot.
                                  ******
Deanna and Beverly were sitting in Deanna's office
discussing recent events.
"Are you going to keep it?" Beverly asked.
     "I think so, yes."
     "Are you sure it's Wes's."
     "Yes." Deanna said, nodding.
"Wes will want it to you know, what do you plan to do about
him?"
     "He's 19, he can't be a father."
"Actually." Beverly said, slightly annoyed. "He's 20
today, and you should have thought of that before you slept with
him."
"I know." Deanna said, depressed. =20
"The two of you need to talk."
"The three of us need to talk."
They both got up and made their way to Wes's quarters.
Beverly had been staying in Sickbay since her fight with Wesley,
but they were also technically HER quarters, and she could enter
at will. She did have the courtesy to knock though.
     Wes and Will heard it.
They were to busy to care.
You'd think they'd learn by now.
Beverly shrugged to Deanna and walked in
They say you could hear the shriek all the way in the next solar=
 system.
