I'm going to record the Toronto Ontatio show (Jul 17th, SkyDome) on DAT. If
anyone wants a Cassette copy, lemmie know. If you want a DAT copy you'll have
to send me up a blank DAT and I'll dub it for yah! Can't wait until July 17!

At my local record exchange I came across an unofficial Cure album that I had
not seen before. It was called Strange Days. Has anyone got any comments on the
sound quality etc? The source is supposedly archive demo tapes and soundboard
recordings. I wanted to buy it but had no cash.

The tracks I remember were:
		Happy Birthday
Hello I Love You (Thrash metal version)
Hello I Love You (West Country Version)
Why Can't I be You (Vocal demo)
		Forever (Faith recording sessions)
		World War One
		Play For Today
Just Like Heaven (demo) - I think this was on there

plus a few other goodies that I can't remember

It was on Limehouse Records. I'm really interested in hearing the thrash
version of Hello I Love You.

Well not someone on the list, but when Terry and I went to the Portsmouth
show, Terry's friend Jean bootlegged it. She's bootlegged all the shows she
went to which was eight of them, I think. Terry will know though.

Okay, fellow babblers...

I'm in the process of compiling a list of all the Cure songs that
fade out instead of end. The list right now looks like this:

none

Um, seriously, are there ANY songs by the Cure that fade out? Maybe
some remixes... This is a pretty unusual aspect of their music, if you
ask me. I mean, out of what, 14 or 15 years of music they haven't done
any songs that fade out at the end? I love it! Can anybody think of
any, or has anybody ever heard any reasons given by a band member as
to this strange and fascinating musical trivial bit?

Jumping Someone Else's Train
A Reflection
In Your House
At Night
Just One Kiss

Nothing, really, after that.

Never heard justification, but I can guess: fading out songs usually
indicates that the artist has no clue how to actually finish a song,
showing an incredible lack of musical knowledge (or savvy). So I can
only guess that Bob and crew are showing that they are actually musicians!

yes, HEA is available on CD. when? don't know, By who? MCA I think
how much? its considered rare... Import or domestic? depends on where
you are :-) its a US release. I've only seen one copy on CD.
It will run you at least $20, probably more...

Well, Never Enough fades out, but it's a deliberate ending to the song.
I guess the fade-to-end thing is a production convienience used to cut
down the song time or hide an otherwise unsatisfactory ending to a song.
It's better than the hackneyed double-false-ending-shimmering-cymbal
nonsense.

The reason MTV only showed pathetically short (20 seconds) clips of
JLH and Friday from the Wish warm-up gig is because The Cure wouldn't
let them show any more. Does this mean a video is to be released?
I hope so.

Answer:
They are great, I saw them saturday here in Oslo --- and well they are
just about the most interesting thing that have happened on the
Indy scene for quite awhile.
The vocal ,Alison Shaw, has just about the prettiest
haunting voice I've ever heard.
(she doesn't look bad either ;)
So in my opinion they are prob. worth the ticket alone -----

"Pornography", "Disintegration", "Kiss me kiss me kiss me.." are
per. def. better albums than "Wish"
"Friday" is starting to sound good even to me now, after I've
started to sing "It's fried eggs that I love" < great idea.....

It depends on what you call a fade-out. All of these songs have either one
long sustained note or chord that gets softer until it drops out, or an
instrument or sound effect that gets gradually softer. There are others, but
I can't think of them right now.

Agreed. I didn't count these, because for the most part, the songs above
were essentially finished, and it was just, uh, for want of a better term,
"decay" of the sound that finished the song. I shure thought about including
them in my previous list, though.

But, still, compared to the volume of work the Cure has released, there's not
even a whole lot of songs like the above. It's mostly just BAM! and the song
is over, which I like a lot (and of course makes songs sound a lot more natural
when you're playing them live, right?).
