We're starting to pick up a *little* on the PR stuff. Gave some
interviews to different magazines, and remember, the E! channel 30 minute
Making Of documentary should be hitting the air in the next few weeks to a
month. Now that we have something to show people, it's a bit easier to get
their attention.

It's been over a month now and I hope I have not missed this airing.
If anyone has some info on this show could they please pass it along
to this group or me personally via e-mail?

The up-coming issue of CINEFANTASTIQUE will have a big (20 pages so
I hear) section on Babylon 5. I have called CINEFANTASTIQUE and you can
order via phone (plus credit card of course) single issues from them.
Sounds like the cost will be around $8.00. I will post again when
this issue gets out and they are ready to take orders. Special thanks
to Bill at neoucom for help in that department.

While I'm at it, thank you as well, Lee. Your post have been
great, thanks for the wonderfull B5 FAQ.

Well... i just got back from a Creation Con.. (I wasnt impressed at all)...
and they had a 20 minute presentation on video from JMS... it was pretty
damn boring. They could have spruced it up with shots of the movie
etc.. but it was just him rambling on about Captain Power and
all the other stuff he's done. Some of it was interesting though I have
to admit. Anyway... Im tired and have to go off to bed. Catch everyone
later.. (hopefully we'll get more posts!) Nite!

As I think I mentioned last week, GEnie expanded their science fiction forum
(splitting the original into three) and Babylon 5 now has its own category.
This means more message topics there and probably even more info surfacing.
A separate topic has been set up for the TV stations list so I hope to have
an updated one soon. Joe has also posted a preliminary list of the credits
to one of the message areas.

In this week's edition of Entertainment Weekly Magazine, they have a
comparision of Babylon 5 to ST: Deep Space Nine, with the text leaning
more favorably towards Babylon 5. It has a listing VERY similar to the one
JMS posted on GEnie.

This past weekend, JMS did his presentation at WishCon (any reports yet?).
Hints have been dropped that he gave an extra presentation and may have
shown most (if not all) of the pilot movie there. Apparently he asked
those who were there not to say much about it.

One other clarification on the sat promo, in the scene where Sinclair explains
about the Babylon 1-4 stations, it is Lyta Alexander he is talking to.

JMS was at WishCon II in Springfield, MA this past weekend, where he gave a
'presentation' on B5. I was very, very impressed. JMS showed that he was
really thinking, which is a very refreshing change. Every question asked he
either had an answer for that made sense, or had an evil smile that said
'watch the show' for.

More, I cannot say...

...publically.

According to reports from Genie, JMS presentation was SOMEWHAT sabotaged by
Majel Barret. Wil (Wheaton?) was on before her and ran about 10 minutes over
and then she ran HALF AN HOUR over. She's apparently worried. She completely
ignored show staff telling her to wrap up.

Unfortunately I didn't attend Wishcon. The B5 presentation was greeted by a
standing ovation. JMS seemed quite happy despite some problems he reportedly
had with travel and what-not.

Hi guys!
Well, I also had the very fortunate opportunity to see JMS at
Wishcon II in Springfield this weekend. I'm in a bit of a rush at
the moment, but let's see if I can crank out a good little review
here....
First of all, Majel did run quite a bit over, despite the guy in
charge of speakers practically stepping up on stage and pulling her
off. This would have been okay, had she been at all interesting -
but unfortunately, her presentation was, in many respects, one of the
most boring of the day. Early on, she asked us if we wanted to hear
about DS9 (yes, I know this isn't B5 stuff - I'm getting to that, and
someone did ask about this). We all said yes, expecting to get some
neat, low down insider info (she's been on a set and in an ep
already). She then proceeded to pull out the Writer's/Director's
Guide for DS9, on sale outside the ballroom for $5.00, and containing
almost NO new info. And it went on, and on, and on... She did show
some slides she had taken of the DS9 sets and actors, and I have to
admit, they do look pretty good.
Finally, we got rid of her, and JMS came on. He had some very
interesting comments on Majel's presentation - I don't remember the
exact jist, but we got a good laugh out of it. He then proceeded to
say that he _did_ hope that DS9 did well, as well as B5. As far as
he's concerned, he thinks there's enough of a market for two such
shows, and hoped that everyone would watch both.
JMS then proceeded to give a very good presentation on
B5, including showing some film clips. I was a little worried about
seeing actual footage, because I had such high hopes for it. My
worries were unwarrented - my high hopes were met or exceeded in
almost every area. The crowd was left stunned and breathless - of
all the people to give presentations in the Grand Ballroom that day,
including such names as Majel Barett (sp?), Wil Wheaton (he did a
good job), and George Takei, JMS got the longest, loudest standing
ovatation. I think he was in seventh heaven, especially since he was
nervous about our reactions to the footage we were to see.
Afterwards, he held a question and answer session in another
room, where we got to say and ask whatever we wanted. This, however,
did not mean he'd answer everything, though he really wanted to - you
could see the agony on his face as he'd tell us he couldn't answer
the question. A typical answer to many questions was "Season 2" or
"mid Season 3". Oh well.
He also encouraged us to do our best to spread the word about B5 -
that'll be the key to it's survival and livelihood. Tell all your
friends, and tell them it'll be spectacular. And in particular, tell
people _off_ of the computer nets, who almost certainly have not run
across B5 yet.
Afterwards, I got a chance to talk to him myself for a bit. I
suggested that a good way to promote B5 more would be to make it
easy/easier for people to get a hold of the promo footage, and then
show it at local film fests and such (like an SF group's activities
on a college campus). He told me to get a hold of Warner publicity -
presumably they'll send me a tape of it, and perhaps any press
release stuff (I run a speculative fiction lit mag, and told JMS I'd
give him free advertising). Otherwise, I would appreciate anyone
that could send me a tape of the promo if they got it from satellite
downlink.
One last comment (or two) for the time being. There are
apparently some rumors going around that JMS showed us all or some of
the pilot episode. If you suspect such things, I _highly_ recommend
that you keep said opinions to yourself If they get around,
some people could get really pissed off, and all they will get are
denials that such a thing occurred. So, in order to avoid any
problems, don't spread such rumors. If you believe we saw a lot,
fine - just believe it in private. We saw a presentation, which
included some footage, some of which was not in the promo. That's it.
Okay, here's the last. As you all know, Warner has not yet
officially committed to going to series with B5. JMS could not
confirm for us that it was - Warner has to say. However, let's put
it this way. A while back, he knew that the B5 pilot was going to be
produced, but since Warner hadn't announced it, he couldn't say
anything - but he was a happy man. This weekend, he couldn't say if
it was going to series - but he did say he was a happy man. But once
again, keep your suspicions to yourself, and keep them off the net-
waves!
That's all for now. I may post a few more comments on the
stupendous nature of the SFX a little later. God, I can't wait 'till
February!!!!!!!

On the subject of something I mentioned earlier today....
Does anyone out there know the address or phone number or
whatever for Warner Bros. or for Warner publicity? I suppose I can
probably get it from information or something, but if anyone already
knows, it would be helpful, and something I hope more people than
just myself wants to know. Thanks.

P.S.-
Has anyone come up with a good B5 .sig yet? I'd love to borrow

Hello again!
As will probably become a habit over the next few days, here's a
little something more I just remembered about JMS's appearance at
Wishcon that I think you all would be interested in.
When I talked to him, I also made a point of telling him how I
had found out about B5. He was rather impressed and apparently quite
happy to hear that someone was collecting his GEnie posts and posting
them to USENET, as well as the fact that there was talk of making a
B5 group of its own after the premiere. He was also quite impressed
that there was a B5 internet mailing list too. He only knew about
GEnie posts, since that's where he hangs out - he hadn't realized it
had gone so far, and that his words were reaching so many. Believe
me, from talking to him, every one of us that is interested in B5 and
spreads the word is truly and deeply appreciated by the man. If
that's not the case, either he's a good actor or I can't read facial
expression worth *@#^!

HIya Folks!

Been reading this "mail-group" plus all the little net-bytes that are on
rec.arts.sf for a while, and like most of you, I anxiously await the
start of B5 (not to say drooling...(-; ), BUT my major worry is the
channels it will be showing on. I've seen a list previously and haven't
seen on of the 3 channels that we get via cable.
Can someone reduces my fear of not seeing it by telling me wich network
will be showing it (i.e the only 3 network we catch are CBS, NBC and ABC
via station of the Burlington/Platsburg area).

Thanks all!

Hey, if JMS has access to internet mail (I though I saw a compuserve for
him once) maybe he will subscribe to the list and keep us up to date. Maybe
somebody who knows can ask him (Lee?).

BTW, Brad Wist (sp?) has been keeping AOL (America Online) up to date by
cross posting most of JMS's GEnie posts. Thanks Brad. :)

Re: Usenet activity:

I have mentioned several times on GEnie about passing along info to USENET
about B5. I haven't been doing much in regards to posting on rec.arts.sf.tv
lately, though. I do have an updated version of the FAQL which will be posted
soon (once I get the TV station list updated with info posted on the TV
station topic on GEnie). I have put the new version up on the ftp site at
coe.montana.edu. It should be in the /tmp directory now and should move to
the babylon5 directory eventually (the site-administrator is currently not
doing much administration there for some reason).

For those with the Sci-Fi channel, their news magazine (Sci-Fi Buzz?) had
an interview with JMS last Sunday which will be repeated next Saturday morning
(9:30 am ET, I think).

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly Magazine has an article comparing
Babylon 5 to ST:Deep Space Nine, leaning more favorably to B5 (I don't know
what the cover date is, I haven't actually seen it).

On the E! (Entertainment Network) "Making of" show, the last word from JMS is
that they were waiting for some SFX shots to use in the show, so no airdate
has been set.

One final question for those who saw JMS at Wishcon. What is the connection
between The Roadrunner (i.e. "Beep Beep") and Babylon 5? A lot of the
people on GEnie keep throwing a "Beep Beep" into their messages but won't
explain. You can send me "anonymous" e-mail if need be to
P14942@email.mot.com. By some strange coincidence, I have occasionally been
using the B5 station GIF file as my Windows background screen at work, and
the sound effect I have when Windows starts up is The Roadrunner going
"Beep Beep".
