Error Messages

The message

 Cannot save clipboard contents

indicates that the contents of the clipboard has been lost due to
lack of memory. Use 3+Mail in a larger memory partition.

The message

Cannot write clipboard to disk - please make room in your System
Folder.

indicates that 3+Mail cannot write the contents of the Clipboard
to the Clipboard file in the System Folder, because the System
Folder's disk is too full. If you want to save the clipboard to
allow pasting of information into another application, delete
some files from the disk or Shared Folder containing your System
Folder.

Duplicate Mail Messages
You may receive two copies of a mail message if you get new mail
immediately after a user has sent a message to a large group
(distribution list) of which you are a member, or to more than
one group of which you are a member.

Memory Considerations with MultiFinder
3+Mail for Macintosh can be used like any other application with
MultiFinder. For information about MultiFinder, refer to the
Apple documentation. You can use 3+Mail and other applications
under MultiFinder with 1MB of memory in your Macintosh. However,
configuring your Macintosh with 2MB or more of memory allows more
flexible use of MultiFinder. If your Macintosh has 1MB of
memory, pay careful attention to the memory size of the
applications you are using.

The default memory size for 3+Mail allows each mailbox to contain
300 messages. Decreasing the amount of memory allocated for
3+Mail can decrease the maximum number of messages allowed per
mailbox. If you get an "out of memory" error message restart
your Macintosh and raise the application memory size.

Multiple Tones on Startup
If you have installed Mail Minder in your System Folder and have
not saved your startup, when you restart your Macintosh five
tones will sound. In order for Mail Minder to function, you must
be logged in to the network. If you have not saved your startup,
you are not automatically logged in and the tones remind you to
do so. To avoid hearing multiple tones on startup, save your
startup using the Status button in the 3+ Network Window. See
the 3+ for Macintosh User Guide for complete information on
saving your startup.

Rebuilding Your Mail Index File
If you turn off or restart your Macintosh immediately after
creating or retrieving mail messages and the new messages do not
display in the mailbox window, you need to rebuild the mail index
file for the mailbox.

To rebuild the mail index file of your default mailbox, hold down
the Option and Command keys while starting 3+Mail. To rebuild
the mail index file of another mailbox, hold down the Command and
Option keys while switching to another mailbox.

Returning to the Default Mailbox
To return to the default mailbox, you can either select Switch
Mailboxes from the File menu or use the keyboard equivalent
Command-H.

Sending Attachments for Use with PC Equivalent Applications
Attachments sent to PC netstation users for use with PC
equivalent applications must be less than 32K in size. If the
attachment is larger than 32K, the PC netstation user will be
unable to save the file in a format that is readable by the PC
equivalent application.

Sending Excel Files as Attachments
To send an Excel file to a PC netstation user as an attachment,
follow these steps:

NOTE: The PC netstation user must be using version 1.3 of
3+Mail.

1. From within Excel, save the file as a WKS format file.

2. From 3+Mail for Macintosh, select Options from the Edit menu.

3. Click the No radio button next to Convert Text Attachments.

4. Click OK.

5. Create a new message.

6. Select Attach from the File menu.

7. Select the Excel file saved as a WKS format file in step 1.

8. Send the message.

On receipt of the message, the PC netstation user should save the
attachment and open it using PC Excel or Lotus 1-2-3.

PC Users with 3+Mail Version 1.0
PC netstation users who are using 3+Mail version 1.0 cannot
retrieve attachments whose path names contain spaces. The path
name is the name of the folder or folders where the attachment
resides followed by the file name. For example, Hard Disk:Test
File. If an attachment with a space in its path name is sent to
a PC Mail 1.0 user, no messages can be retrieved by that user
until the network administrator removes the first message waiting
to be delivered to the user. For information on removing the
first message waiting to be delivered, see the 3+Mail for
Macintosh Administrator's Guide.

If the message

 Server is not responding

appears frequently when trying to retrieve or send mail, increase
the number of remote processes for 3+Mail. Macintosh netstations
connected to the server via AppleTalk are considered remote
netstations. Increase the number of remote processes for 3+Mail
to four (4) or to the maximum number allowed by your server's
memory, whichever is less. For information on increasing the
number of remote processes for 3+Mail, see the 3+ Installation
and Configuration Guide.
