Title: Installation Instruction Multiple 3+Name Service
Date: 1/28/89

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

The following instructions are intended for a network administrator.
They show you how to modify the server and netstation software to
permit multiple 3+Name services on one network.

Supported Network Environments:

1. The Multiple 3+Name Service is designed for 3+ 1.2.1 and above.

2. The Multiple 3+Name Service supports all 3Com servers (i.e.,
3Server, 3Server3, and 3Server386).

3. The Multiple 3+Name Service supports Mac IIs and Mac SEs on
a 3+Mac server using AppleTalk (LocalTalk) cabling only.

Special Notes

1. The Multiple 3+Name Service does not yet support the LinkPlus
Optimizer on a token ring network.

2. If your network has a Xerox router, you must use the same
network number on all 3+Name services.

3. All netstations on a multiple 3+Name network must be updated
as explained in these instructions. Those netstations not
updated will periodically hang during network use.

4. Using 3+Mac requires that the 3+Name service must be on the
NetConnect server.

5. Whenever there is a need to modify the netstation setaddr
parameters, the NETSTN.CFG file should be modified and the
affected machine restarted. As usual, the 3+Name service must
come up first.

.h1;MODIFYING A 3+NAME SERVER

Your must perform this procedure on each 3+Name server. The
procedure is divided into the following steps:

Step 1: Gathering 3+Name Server Information

This procedure has you display the Network Number and Ethernet
Address of the 3+ Name server. You will need this information
when you update the server and the netstations.

Step 2: Modifying the SERVER.CFG and NETSTN.CFG Files

This procedure has you enter the information you gathered in Step
1 in the SERVER.CFG and NETSTN.CFG files on the Multiple 3+Name
Service diskette.

Step 3: Installing on all servers

This procedure has you install the 3+Name servers by running
the INSTALL program.

.h1;Modifying a 3+Name Server

Step 1: Gathering 3+Name Server Information

1. Log into the network as Admin or as a user with administrator
capabilities.

2. Execute the 3N DIR command on the 3+Name server to display
network information.

The format of the command is:

     3N DIR \\servername

For example, if you have a 3+Name server called SALES, you would
enter:

     3N DIR \\SALES
In response, your netstation displays a screen similar to this:

Name:
SALES:SPD:3Com Type: Server Comment:
Located on the second floor, cube #26 CreateDate: 7-16-86
2:56pm ModifyDate: 9-1-87 9:17am Password:
***** NetNumber: 00040006 EthernetAddress:
02608C150024 3ShareInstalled: yes 3NameInstalled yes
3MailInstalled: no 3RouteInstalled: yes
3BackupInstalled: yes

3. Write down the server's Network Number (NetNumber) and
Ethernet address (EthernetAddress).

4. Print a list of all users and share names on the network with
this command:

        3f dir \\servername>prn:

The servername is the name of the network's 3+Name server. For
example, assume that you have a 3+Name server called SALES. To
print the names of the network users on the printer linked to
LPT1:, you would enter:

     3f dir \\SALES>prn:

This completes Step 1 of this procedure. Go to Step 2 to modify
the SERVER.CFG file on the Multiple 3+Name Service disk.
Modifying a 3+Name Server Step 2: Modifying the SERVER.CFG and
NETSTN.CFG Files

This step requires the use of a word processor or text editor
capable of handling lines longer than 80 characters.

1. Display the contents of SERVER.CFG, located on the MNS
diskette. The file looks like this:

c:\3plus\setaddr /net=00055555 /3name=02608C300594 /locator=02608C300594
/3time=02608C300594

2. Enter network number of the 3+Name server into /net. For
example, if the network number of the server is 0002F456, edit
the /net value to read: /net=0002F456.

3. Enter the Ethernet address of the 3+Name server into /3name,
/locator, and /3time. For example, if the Ethernet address of the
PC server is 02608C337645, edit the values to read: /
3name=02608C37645 /locator=02608C37645 /3time=02608C37645 NOTE:
This step assumes that the Locator service is on the same server
as the 3+Name service. If it is not, enter the Ethernet address
of the server where the Locator resides.

4. Save the edited SERVER.CFG file.

5. Repeat this procedure on the NETSTN.CFG file stored on the
Multiple 3+Name disk.

This completes the procedure for modifying the SERVER.CFG and
NETSTN.CFG files.

.h1;Modifying a 3+Name Server

Step 3. Installing for all Servers

The program automatically copies the following files onto
the server's hard disk drive:

     IDP.SYS
     SERVER.CFG
     SETADDR.EXE

Also the 3PLUS_ON.BAT is modified.

The original IDP.SYS and 3PLUS_ON.BAT files are copied to
DP.OLD and 3PLUS_ON.OLD.

15. Remove the Multiple 3+Name Service diskette from the floppy
diskette drive.

.h1;MODIFYING NETSTATION STARTUP DISKS

Perform this procedure on all netstation startup disks.

1. Insert the Multiple 3+Name Service disk into drive A of the
netstation.

2. If you are enhancing a startup diskette, insert it into drive
B:.

3. Type this command to make drive A: the current drive:

     A:

4. Type this command to start the install program:

     NETSTN n

where n is the identifier of the drive of the startup disk. For
example, if the startup disk is a hard disk, you would enter:

     NETSTN C:

If n is not specified, drive B: is the default. The program
automatically copies the following files onto the Netstations
startup diskette:

     IDP.SYS
     NETSTN.CFG
     SETADDR.EXE

Also the AUTOEXEC.BAT file is modified and the original
AUTOEXEC.BAT file is copied to AUTOEXEC.OLD.

5. Repeat this procedure for each netstation startup disk.

LINKPLUS OPTIMIZER

Perform the following step on all netstations using the LinkPlus
Optimizer on an Ethernet network.

NOTE: LinkPlus Optimizer is not yet supported on a token ring
network that has the Multiple 3+Name Service enhancement.

Copy the following files from the Multiple 3+Name Service disk
onto the startup disk of the netstation using the LinkPlus
Optimizer:

     PTH.SYS
     PTA.EXE

.h1;MODIFYING 3+START VOLUMES

Perform this procedure on each 3+Start volume on the network.
The procedure must be performed on a netstation with at least one
floppy disk drive. The netstation must be booted from a start
volume.

1. Log into the network as Admin or as a user with administrator
capabilities.

2. Link the Start directory to drive F:. Each start volume is
a file in the directory \3PLUS\3START\STARTVOL on the server.

For example, assume the 3+Start directory has a sharename
called STARTDIR on the SALES server. For this you would
enter the command:

     3F LINK F: \\SALES\STARTDIR

3. Make F: the default drive by entering:

     F:

4. Assign private access rights to the start volume.

     3S MOD ?
     Volume Name? start
     Password? [Return]
     Access? PRIV
     Description? [Return]

5. Link the modified volume to C:

     For example:

     3S LINK START

6. Insert the Multiple 3+Name Service disk in drive A: of the
netstation.

7. Make drive A: the active drive by typing:

     A:

8. Type this command to start the install program:

     NETSTN C:

The program automatically copies the following files onto
the Netstations startup diskette:

     IDP.SYS
     NETSTN.CFG
     SETADDR.EXE

Also the AUTOEXEC.BAT file is modified and the original
AUTOEXEC.BAT file is copied to AUTOEXEC.OLD.

9. Remove the Multiple Name Service diskette from the floppy
     diskette drive.

10. Make drive F: the active drive by typing:

     F:

11. Unlink the modified Start volume from drive C: by typing:

     3S UNLINK

12. Assign private access rights to the start volume.

     3S MOD ?
     Volume Name? start
     Password? oldworld
     Access? PUB
     Description? [Return]

13. Repeat this procedure on each start volume starting with
Step 4.

14. If your 3+Start servers have the same network number, you
must equate the start socket number, 0401, to the Ethernet
address of the 3+Start server in the server's SERVER.CFG. For
example:

c:\3plus\setaddr /net=00055555 /3name=02608C300594
/locator=02608C300594 /3time=02608C300594 /0401=02608C300594
