Q. How do you configure a Compaq 7OMb system to run in standard
mode under EtherSeries 2.4?

A. Compaq will allow only 4 partitions, there can be one (and
only one) partition which is more than 10 Mb (not enough buffers
to cache the FAT problem). We recommend the drive be partitioned
as follows: three 10 Mb partitions and one 30 Mb partition. The
30 Mb partition may be designated as any drive c,d,e or f Because
the network requires some space on drive c, we recommend that
drive c be 10 Mb. This way all of the 30 Mb partition will be
available for large volumes.

You must also increase the CIOSYS buffers to 25. To do this, boot
the PC which is the server, EXIT TO DOS WITHOUT STARTING THE
SERVER. Edit the file \ethershr\etherstd.bat so the line which
says CIOSYS 16 says CIOSYS 25.

Q. How do you get rid of the banner page under EtherSeries 2.4?

A. EP LINK /PLOT will get rid of the banner page. If you are in
dedicated mode on a PC Server you must unlink before your print
jobs will de-spool. If you are in standard mode on a PC Server or
on a 3Server, your job will de-spool in 30 seconds. The /PLOT
option may be used in conjunction with /HOLD or /DIRECT. This
information is found in your manual.

Q. Do programs written in Basic cause problems on the server?

A. Yes, this is true. Do not run programs written in Basic (
such as BASIC or COMPILED BASIC) from the Standard mode server
workstation. They may be installed in volumes on the server, and
run from ordinary workstations, but NOT run at the Standard mode
server workstation.

Q. I logged in as the server user and created volumes. Now I
cannot link to them when I log in as myself. Why?

A. The most common reason for this is that the user forgot to
set the volume to PUBLIC status. Also when linking to volumes
created by a different user, you must include the owner's name in
your link command.

Assume all volumes are public and not password protected.

     Example: Name Volume
                           Server1 SYS2
                           Server1 LOTUS
                           User1 DATA
                           User2 DATA

      Example 1

login as User1 and link to system, lotus and user1's data
      volumes.

      ES LINK D: SYS.SYS2; LINK F: SYS.LOTUS; LINK C: DATA or

      ES LINK D: SERVER1.SYS2; LINK F: SERVER1.LOTUS; LINK C:
      DATA

      Example 2

This example does not include a password. Generally users
will password protect their pubic data files, which then
would require a password in the link command.

login as USER 2 and link to system, lotus, user2's data and
      user1's data volumes.

      ES LINK D: SYS.SYS2; LINK F: SYS.LOTUS; LINK C: DATA

      ES LINK E: USER1.DATA

      Example 3

login at SERVER l and link to all volumes.

      ES LP& D: SYS2; LINK F: LOTUS; LINK C: USER1.DATA

      ES LINK E: USER2.DATA

Q. What is the LOTUS set up string which allows me to print in
landscape mode for the HP laser printer?

A. Make sure you have the appropriate cartridge in your HP laser
printer which allows landscape mode. The set up string is:

      \027E\027&110\027&k2S

      (\zero,two,seven,E\zero,two,seven,&,lower case
      "l",one,capital letter "O",\zero,two,seven,&,lower case
      "k",two,capital letter "S")

It must be entered correctly. Make sure you remember to change
your right margin to 240.

If for some reason you have a problem with this, you may contact
LOTUS for further details.

Q. Will Display Write III run on the server?

A. No, Display Write III will run from a workstation only.
