.h1;Installation

                      ** NOTE **

If you wish to make a copy of SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT
Version 22000, you should use a blank, 96 TPI, double-sided,
high density diskette.

Because your Series/200 server is booted from an NCS/AT, install
SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000 on the NCS/AT using the
following procedure:

1. Follow the instructions in the NCS/AT Installation and
Operation Guide to log in to the NCS/AT. A command prompt
appears on the screen after you log in.

2. Enter the NCS/AT utility mode by typing the following at the
NCS/AT command prompt:

    utility

The NCS/AT utility prompt, NCS/AT%, appears on the screen.

3. Enter the /usr/NCS/BIN directory on the NCS/AT by typing the
following command:

    cd /usr/NCS/BIN

4. Before installing the new software on the NCS/AT, save the
earlier version of the Series/200 software. For example,
type the following command to save the contents of SW/200-A/
BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 20080 in a file named cs200.20080:

    mv cs200 cs200.20080

5. Enter the /usr/ncs/bin directory by typing the following
command:

    cd /usr/ncs/bin

6. Display the contents of the /usr/ncs/bin directory by typing
the following command:

    ls

The files "sysgenx" and "sysgent" must be in the /usr/ncs/bin
directory before you can successfully install SW/200-A/BSC/
SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000 on the NCS/AT. If these files are
not in the /usr/ncs/bin directory, please call an authorized
3Com service representative for help.

7. If the file "sysgen" is also in the /usr/ncs/bin directory,
you should save the contents of this file in case you need to
use it later. For example, type the following command to
save the contents of the file "sysgen" in a file name
sysgen.script.

    mv sysgen sysgen.script

8. Insert the SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000 diskette in
the disk drive of the NCS/AT. When the drive engages the
diskette, it makes a clicking sound.

9. Turn the diskette drive lever down.

10. Invoke the floppyread utility to copy the files from the SW/
200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000 diskette to the NCS/AT
disk by typing the following:

    floppyread

As the files are copied to the disk, their names are
displayed on the screen.

11. If floppy read errors or disk write errors occur, remove and
replaced the diskette; then repeat this procedure starting at
step 9.

12. If you wish to perform system generation on the Series/200
server, invoke the sysgen utility on the NCS/AT. Refer to
Section 9.25 of the NCS/AT Installation and Operation Guide
for more information on the NCS/AT sysgen utility.

                         ** NOTE **

If your Series/200 server is not already bound to the NCS/
AT, you should use the BInd command to enable your Series/
200 server to boot from the NCS/AT. Refer to Section 5.2
or the NCS/AT Installation and Operation Guide for
information on using the BInd command.

.h1;New Features

The following features, which were not present in SW/200-A/BSC/
SDLC-NCS/AT Version 20080, have been implemented in SW/200-A/BSC/
SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000.

Because these features were first supported in TCP/IP software
Version 20000, the Connection Service User's Guide states that
they are available only in TCP/IP protocol software Version 20000
or later. Please disregard these statements when referring to
this guide for further information on these features:

* You can define macros containing conditional statements.

* The ZeroMacros command, which clears the contents of the
macro cache on the local server, is now available.

* Universal Time is now available for network communications
spanning different time zones. Two new global parameters
have been implemented to support this feature.

The DaylightSavingTime parameter specifies the displacement,
in hours or minutes, from non-Daylight Savings Time. The
TimeZone parameters specifies in hours or minutes how far
west the server is from Greenwich.

The Network Control Servers do not yet support this feature.

* A new global parameter, AUditTrailType, is available. This
parameter specifies the format of the time-stamp for audit
trail messages. The two formats are Local time and Universal
time.

* A new parameter, NetMapBroadcast, has been add to SW/200-A/
BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000. This parameter, which can be
set to ON or OFF, determines whether the Series/200 server
broadcasts its netmap packets.

* A new parameter, MacType, has been added. Its possible
values are IEEE and Enet.

This parameter determines the type of Media Access Control
level protocol to be used. If this parameter is set to Enet,
all data link packets are sent as Ethernet packets. If it is
set to IEEE, all data link packets are sent as IEEE 802.3
packets.

In addition to the features described above, SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-
NCS/AT has the following new features:

* A new User Interface command, PIng, enables you to determin
whether a specified host is operating without having to form
a connection to the host.

This command uses the ECHO protocol to send echo request
packets to the specified address.

The following is the syntax for the PIng command:

    PIng <clearinghouse name | address > [<timeout>]

You may specifiy a physical address or a clearinghouse name.
The timeout value specifies the length of time in seconds
that the Series/200 server waits for a response from the
addressed host. The default timeout value is 20 seconds, and
the maximum timeout value is 300 seconds.

All Communications Servers running XNS protocol software
versions that support the PIng command respond to the echo
request by sending an echo response packet. If the host
responds within the specified timeout period, the message
"Host is alive" is displayed. If the host does not respond
within this period, the message "Host is not responding" is
displayed.

To interrupt the PIng command, press the Break key.

* The SHow AllSessions command, which displays a list of all
physical ports on the Series/200 server, now also shows the
originating end of a connection when it is a passive-end
connection or an interconnection.

* The Sysgen program can now be used to disable any User
Interface commands listed on the UI Command Privilege Levels
manu. The privilege level has four possible values: User,
Local Network Manager, Global Network Manager, and Disable.
The new option is useful, for example, to disable the REMOTE
command to improve network security.

* When a Data General terminal port receives a host-initiated
break signal, the Series/200 server terminates any pending
flow control to that port.

* When the ECMChar parameter is set to a character on a Data
General terminal, the DLE character is processed. When the
ECMChar parameter is disabled, the DLE character is passed as
data.

                       ** NOTE **

If you use the configurations, macros, and global files
copied from the SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 20080 or
earlier diskette, you must use the SETD command to set the
value of the AUditTrailType, TimeZone, DaylightSavingsTime,
and NetMapBroadcast parameters after booting the Series/200
server.

.h1;Bugs Fixed

Certain problems, which existed in SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT
Version 20080 or earlier, have been fixed in SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-
NCS/AT Version 22000. These problems and their resolutions are
described below.

* The audit trail record code for excessive retransmissions,
ER, is now sent to a Network Control Server if the SPP
retransmission count exceeds 200 within an hour.

Previously, this information was not recorded on the NCS
because the SPP retransmission count failed to exceed zero,
regardless of the number of actual SPP retransmissions.

* The ReaD command now works properly for the port configured
as the last virtual port on the Series/200 server.

Previously, this command replaced the in-memory default
paramters of the last virtual port with those from a
specified file on the system diskette, but failed to
automatically copy the net in-memory parameter table back to
the system diskette. Now the ReaD command performs both of
these functions correctly.

* The lowest possible value of the Sysgen parameter, SPP
Minimum Window Size, has been changed from 3 to 1.

* Previously, if the FlowControlFrom and FlowControlTo
paramters were both set to None, resetting one of the
parameters to Xon_Xoff or ENQ_ACK caused the other to be
automatically set to Xon_Xoff or ENQ_ACK. This problem has
been fixed and the FlowControlFrom and FlowControlTo
paramters can be set independently.

*   SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000 attempts to establish
connections to permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) according to
the order in which the connection requests are received.
Previously, priority was always given to the attempt to
connect to the lowest-numbered PVC.

* The StopBits parameter can now be set to any of its possible
values. Previously, if you attempted to set this parameter
to 1.5, the screen displayed an error message.

* The optional parameter, (<address>), is now included in the
syntax of all commands displayed in the Global Network
Manager help menu. Previously, this parameter was omitted
from some commands of the display.

For example, the syntax for the UNSave command is now
displayed in the Global Network Manager help menu as follows:

    UNSave (<address>) <filename>

* You can now define a permanent virtual circuit using a
combination of a clearinghouse name and a port number. The
address string specifying the clearinghouse name and port
number must not contain more than 12 characters. For
example, the following command defines a permanent virtual
circuit from port 25 on the source server to the address
"host7!128":

    SETD (!25) pvc= "host7!128"

* Previously, if the value of the ECHOMask parameter included
control characters, some characters (e.g., backspace) did not
function normally in Command mode.

This problem has been corrected.

* A Global Network Manager can execture macros either in remote
mode or by using the following command syntax:

    DO <address> <macro name>

In addition, the Global Network Manager help menu now
includes the syntax for entering this command.

Do not use this command to execute a macro containing an
infinite loop or one that takes a long time to execute. The
macro is aborted after one minute of execution to prevent it
from locking up the remote capabilitity of the Communications
server.

If you need to execute such a macro, connect to network
management virtual port 136 on the Communications Server and
then type the following command:

    DO <macro name>

* The X.25 host no longer hangs when you type the following
commands to initiate a connection from a Series/200 server to
the host across a GS/1-X.25:

    Connect <host address> ECM
    RES

When you enter the RESume command, the Series/200 server
sends back the response to the "read parameter" packet from
the X.25 host, and your terminal successfully enters Data
Transfer mode.

* The global network manager form of the SHow STATistics -S
command now displays correct error statistcs for the network.
Previously, this command always displayed zero errors.

.h1;Limitations

SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC-NCS/AT Version 22000 has the following
limitations:

* Only three echo requests may be outstanding at any give time.
If more than three users simultaneously enter the PIng
command, the following message appears:

Can't Ping now - try later

* After you use the UNDefine command to delete a macro of the
DEFine command to create a macro file using an existing name,
enter the following command at the NCS/AT utilities prompt:

    oneachserver -B 'zm'

This command clears the macro cache on each server bound to
the NCS/AT and ensures that macros deleted from a Series/200
server are also deleted from other Series/200 serves that
boot from the same NCS/AT. However, this command does not
delete macros that are being used when the command is issued.

* Because your Series/200 server is booted from an NCS/AT, you
cannot set the Mac-Type parameter to IEEE. This is caused by
a fault in the NCS/AT.
