Following are the most commonly asked questions about Token Ring
networks.

Q: What type of software can be operated in the CS/1-TR?

A: The CS/1-TR uses standard CS/1 XNS software with a new multi-
link support (SW/1-A/BSC/SDLC Version 20050 or later) for
operating in the Token Ring network.

Q: What is a Logical Link Control (LLC) protocol?

A: IEEE 802.2 LLC is a data link level protocol. Since Token
Ring IEEE 802.5 does not include a TYPE field in the header,
a new layer of protocol is necessary to determine what
protocol type is in the packet. Therefore, LLC is used to
specify the upper-layer protocol information in the Token
Ring packet.

Q: Can the CS/1-TR communicate with IBM Token Ring equipment on
the same Token Ring network?

A: PCs running TokenTerm can communicate with the CS/1-TR.
Otherwise, the CS/1-TR can only coexist with IBM Token Ring
equipment on the Token Ring network.

Q: Does the PC running standard IBM Token Ring software need to
be rebooted in order to run the TokenTerm software?

A: No.

Q: Does TokenTerm work with 3Com Token Ring products?

A: No. There are three major differences between Bridge and
3Com Token Ring products.

a) 3Com Token Ring products do not implement LLC.

b) The TokenTerm software driver is different from the 3Com
Token Ring driver.

c) Bridge Token Ring software only runs on the IBM Token
Ring Adapter Card; it does not run on the 3Com TokenLink
Plus board.
