Guide Page

CAUTION: A 3Server/3+ System diskette (part
#2093-02) is included in this package of
3+Share. This is a later version of the diskette
with the same name that you received with your
3Server. Discard the old diskette and use the
one included in this package.

Discard Part #2093-01

Use Part #2093-02

The software used to format the 3Server's hard
disk has been revised to be fully compatible with 3+
version 1.1. If you have a 3Server 70 that has
never been used (e.g., you are not upgrading
from 3+ version 1.0 to version 1.1), you must
reformat the disk before installing software. If
you have a 3Server3 with a serial number
BELOW F1570 and the server has never been
used before, you should reformat the disk. No
reformat is required for serial numbers ABOVE
F1570. Follow the instructions in the 3Server
Guide and use the 3Server/3+ System diskette
provided in this package.

CAUTION: If you are using a 3Server3 , you
may have received a diskette with the CacheCard (3C1011). This
diskette is for use only with 3+ version 1.0 and should not be used
with 3+ version 1.1. Discard the diskette (part #2984). No
replacement diskette is required; the software used by the CacheCard
is included on other 3+ version 1.1 software diskettes.

I&C 3-3 CAUTION: The partition or physical drive on
which 3+ 3-9 services are installed MUST have a sector size of 512
bytes. Additional drives or partitions can have different sector
sizes. 3Server partitions and most 3rd party hard disks use 512 byte
sector sizes as the default.

Installation (cont.)

I&C D-16 CAUTION: When using a 3Server3 with a
CacheCard,
DO NOT change the second or third
parameters (user or services) on the
DEVICE=PRO.SYS line.   If these parameter
values are set to anything other than zero (0),
the system will not function properly.

I&C 1-5 3+ version 1.0 and 3+ version 1.1 software
cannot co-exist on the same server.

I&C 1-7 Final validation testing has not been completed
with the AST Rampage AT board. At this time, we
can only recommend use of the Intel AboveBoard.

I&C 1-7 On a PC server, EMS memory may either be
used by the server (via 3+TurboShare), OR by applications
programs, but not by both. This includes
applications that require special device drivers
to be added to the CONFIG.SYS file, such as
print buffers and virtual disks. EMS memory
can be used for such programs only if
3+TurboShare is not installed.

I&C 3-7 Floppy drives are not be listed as part of the
CIOSYS 5-28
Configuration menu in the 3INSTALL program.
configurations are approximations. Your particular configuration of
printers, disk drives, modems, etc., affects the
amount of memory actually required.

I&C 4-9 On a PC server -- when installing standard
library configurations using an EMS board, 2 MB of
EMS are expected. If your EMS board has less
than 2 MB of memory, modify the EMS memory
allocation after the services have been
installed. Otherwise, the server may not
function correctly.

I&C 4-11 On a 3Server3 -- when installing standard
library configurations using a CacheCard, modify the
EMS memory allocation after the services have
been installed from the library. Otherwise, the
EMS field will be reset to zero when a library
configuration is used.

Installation (cont.)

I&C 4-13 When installing multi-server configurations
using 3+Mail and 3+Route to connect multiple networks, you
must be careful in arranging services on servers
and setting up dial-out routes for 3+Route.
Some combinations will not work correctly but
there should always be a viable combination
that meets your needs. The configurations that
are tricky involve one server running both
3+Mail and either 3+Route or 3+NetConnect
while one or more other servers run 3+Route. If
you do this, you must set up the same complete
set of dial-out routes on all Route servers.

3+Mail on a server by iteself can route correctly
regardless of the dial-out route configurations of
the 3+Route servers on the network.

3+Mail on a server with 3+Route can route
correctly even though other servers may be
running 3+NetConnect.

I&C 4-16 When installing 3+Name, the 3+Name
Configuration menu will automatically be displayed after
installation of the selected services. If the
installation is interrupted or fails in any way, you
must restart the server and select Run the
3INSTALL program. From the 3INSTALL
main menu, select Configure Parameters
and Peripherals. Move the cursor to Name
service and select Change to display the Name
service parameters. Enter the network number
from your 3+Share/Name diskette. If the
network number is not entered, the message
"No Name server" will be displayed when you
start the system and the network will not be
operational.

I&C A-16 On a 3Server -- if, after restarting the server, the
LCD constantly displays "Loading <service>" but all
the services seem to be running correctly,
increase the number of processes on the
DEVICE=PRO.SYS line in the CONFIG.SYS file
in the root (\) directory. For example, change
DEVICE=PRO.SYS 32 0 0 to
DEVICE=PRO.SYS 34 0 0.

Installation (cont.)

I&C A-30 The message "Unable to create directory" may
appear if you run the installation program and attempt to
install the software more than once. This
message indicates that the installation batch file
attempted to create a directory which already
exists. No action is required. The batch file will
continue executing and the installation program
will function normally.

I&C C-6 If you are using a NULL modem connection
between two networks, or between a 3+Remote PC
workstation and a network, make sure the
following timeout values are set to zero (0):

Port Timeout (Port on which NULL
modem is installed) on both networks

Dial-Out Route Timeout (for each route
which uses the NULL modem port, the
Timout value should be zero)

Remote PC with a NULL modem
connection to a network should have
TIMEOUT=0 in the PROFILE.SYS file.

Using a timeout value of 0 will keep the NULL
modem connection between the two networks
open all the time, providing better performance
and reliability. Set the Port and Dial-out Route
timeouts using the 3INSTALL program.

Installation (cont.)

I&C D-17 The Login Library Manager, LGL.SYS, has a
parameter, specified as follows:

device=lgl.sys -mx

-mx Sets the maximum number of map
entries available in the Login
Library. Each time a 3F or 3P LINK,
3F or 3P DIR, or 3N ASSIGN
command is issued, an entry is
made in the Login Library. If the
number of entries exceeds the
maximum set with this parameter,
the error message "Internal error"
will be returned. Rebooting the
workstation clears all entries in the
current Login Library name map.
Each map entry requires 88 bytes of
memory. The default is 8.

.H1;Administration

Guide Page
General

Admin 1-5 Assign the \3PLUS\3CONFIG directory the
sharename
CONFIG.

Admin 2-20 For information on use of the LASTDRIVE
command, see Appendix D of the 3+ Installation and Configuration
Guide.

Admin 4-5 The menu file for Tape Backup functions is ADMIN6.MNI,
not ADMIN5.MNI as shown in Table 4-1.

Admin 5-27 References to the installation menu item
Configure 5-31 Server Parameters should read Configure Parameters
and Peripherals.

Administration (cont.)

3+Menus

Admin 4-3
When using the pre-configured administration 4-27 submenus, always
check the file location of each menu item to assure that it matches
your installation's configuration. To do this, select an item on the
administration submenu and use the command/Modify Change to look at
the File Location (disk:directory) listing. Make sure the
location shown is the location of the submenus in your configuration.

Menus 1-1
For your convenience, copy protection has been
removed from 3+Menus. Only one copy is required to install this
service on multiple servers on a network. Please disregard any
references regarding copy protection or 5-user versus unlimited-
user capabilities under 3+Menus.

Menus 2-2
When using terminate-and-stay-resident
programs such as 3+Mail Minder or Sidekick with 3+Menus, the
terminate-and-stay-resident programs must be
loaded prior to running the MENUS.EXE
program.

Menus 5-10
With 3+Menus, any submenu can point to any
other menu in your 3+Menus system. This makes
recursive (circular) menu references possible.
While occasionally useful, this is not good
practice, and should be avoided if at all
possible. If you happen to create a recursive
menu reference, the circle can be broken by
modifying the file name in one of the submenus.
Select the desired menu item and change
(/Modify Change) the name of the file
referenced in the Menu File field. Two or more
menus may reference a common submenu as
long as the references are not circular.

Menus 5-21
The convention of using SYS to represent the
default server name is allowed when defining
automatic linking for a menu item.

Administration (cont.)
3+Menus (cont.)

Menus 5-21 User name and alias are now permitted in the
2nd page
of the Create/Modify Task form for \\<server name>.

Menus D-1 The APPEND command is executed by
invoking the program APPEND.COM found on the 3+Share User #1 diskette.
The DOS 3.x version of APPEND.COM can also be used.

3+Route

Admin 5-36 Changes to the dial-out routes for 3+Route will
take effect within 5 minutes without having to restart the server.
Changes made to the port or buffer configuration require the 3+Route
server to be restarted before taking effect.

3+Start

Admin 1-7 To create a 3+Start Master diskette, follow the
4-40 procedures in Chapter 2 of the 3+ Installation
and Configuration Guide for creating a Local
Workstation Startup disk. Instead of choosing
the menu item for Local Workstation Startup
disk, choose 3+Start Master diskette.

Admin 4-43 When sharing the \3PLUS\3START\STARTDIR
directory, assign Read-Write-Create (RWC)
access rights, not Public (PUB).

Admin 4-51 When modifying a private 3+Start volume, do
A-12 not use the DOS command VERIFY=ON or
COPY with the /V parameter. If VERIFY is used, the error
message "General error writing to drive C:" will
occur. Should this happen, issue the DOS
command VERIFY=OFF and repeat the operation.

Administration (cont.)

3+Mail

Admin 2-23 For information on using 3+Mail Minder, see the
3+Mail Minder Guide that is shipped with the 3+Mail 1.1 package.

Minder 1-4 3+Mail Minder is now included on the 3+Mail
User diskette.
