3+ Version 1.2.1 Upgrade Instructions

This document provides instructions for upgrading 3+ version 1.1 (PC
or 3Server) or 3+ version 1.2 (PC or 3Server) to 3+ version 1.2.1.
This package upgrades 3+Share (File, Print, and Name), 3+Backup,
3+Menus, and the Locator. Other services (such as 3+Mail) cannot be
upgraded using this package.

This upgrade and its associated documentation are intended for
resellers and knowledgeable administrators (you cannot upgrade to
release 1.2.1 by simply copying files that have changed). If you need
assistance for this upgrade, contact your authorized 3+ reseller.

Upgrade Considerations

General Upgrade Procedures

Upgrading a network to 3+ version 1.2.1 involves:

Using the 3INSTALL program to generate a server configuration report.

Installing new 3+ drivers, CIOSYS, upgraded versions of 3+Share
services and (if upgrading from 3+ version 1.1), the Locator.

Reconfiguring and fine-tuning network parameters (if necessary) to
provide the additional memory this upgrade requires.
Creating netstation diskettes.

Additional Memory
Requirements

Note: If you do not require full NetBIOS
applications, then installing the Locator is not
necessary. 3+ version 1.2.1 Locator requires
about 40K more memory than 3+ version 1.1 so you may
need to adjust network parameters to provide
the additional memory. A Locator can be
installed on any node on the network. One Locator per network.

Installing Additional Services

If you want to install additional services (that
are not included in this package), do so after
completing the upgrade to 1.2.1.

Installing 3+ for Macintosh

Only install 3+ for Macintosh version 1.2
after the 3+ version 1.2.1 is installed. To
install 3+ for Macintosh, follow the
installation guidelines described in the 3+ for
Macintosh Supplement. You can then use 3+
version 1.2.1 to create netstation startup
diskettes.

DOS 3.3 and New Library Configurations

3+ version 1.2.1 supports DOS 3.3 for both
PC servers and netstations. Because of the
larger size of DOS 3.3, services in 1.2.1 have
had their parameters changed. You may need
to re-enter service parameters that were
manually changed.

Netstation Diskettes

To get the full benefit of this upgrade, we
recommend that you create new netstation
diskettes for each netstation whether or not
the netstation will be running NetBIOS
applications. A netstation refers to any
intelligent standalone computer or network
station used on a network.

Before you Begin

Copying the Upgrade Diskettes

Make copies of the diskettes in the upgrade
kit. Then put the upgrade diskettes in a safe
place and use the copies to upgrade your
network.

Because this upgrade package is designed to
upgrade both 3+ version 1.1 and 3+ version
1.2 networks, you may not need all the
diskettes included in this upgrade package.

This kit is intended as an upgrade for
installed systems, therefore, it does not
include 3.5 inch diskettes.

Recording Existing Network Information

The server configuration report records the
server name and network number. You will
need this information when installing the new
Name service and Locator. This report also
acts as a guide if the upgrade requires
memory allocation adjustments To record
existing network information:

1. Log into the network and link to the server
you are upgrading. This is in the
netstation mode, meaning the network is
operating. Users must have the line
device=ANSI.SYS in their netstation
startup diskette CONFIG.SYS file, to
allow netstation mode access to
3INSTALL. If they do not have this line,
the system will alert them.

2. Start the 1.1 or 1.2 version of
3INSTALL that is on your server's
\3PLUS\3CONFIG directory. (See Page
4-5 in the 3+ Installation and
Configuration Guide.)

3. Generate a server configuration report.
(For details about generating a server
configuration report, see page 5-12 in the
3+ Installation and Configuration Guide.)

When you generate your first server
configuration report, 3INSTALL writes a
file called CONFDUMP.000 to the
\3Plus\3Config subdirectory.

4. Exit to DOS

5. Print the server configuration report by
copying the CONFDUMP with the
highest numbered extension to PRN:
(Each time you generate another server
configuration report, 3INSTALL writes a
new CONFDUMP file and increments the
filename's extension.)

6. In the server configuration file printout,
note the server's name, domain, and organization -- and the server's
network number.

Unsharing Printers
Unshare each network printer using the following steps:

1. Log into the network as Server User.

2. Change to the APPS subdirectory.

3. For each printer on the server, type:

   3P UNSHARE printername

(For more information about the 3P UNSHARE command, see p. 6-141 in
the 3+ Administrator's Guide.)

Backing Up the
CONFIG.SYS File

Before beginning the upgrade, you need to
make a backup of the CONFIG.SYS file. To make this backup:

[For the 3Server/3Server3]

1. Insert the 3S/200 System #1 Diskette in drive A.

2. Establish a 3C connection. (Refer to Appendix F of the 3+
Installation and Configuration Guide.)

3. From the root directory of the server, (not \3ROOT), type:

   COPY CONFIG.SYS
   CONFIG.OLD

[For PC Servers]

When upgrading a PC Server, you must be at
that PC Server's keyboard.

1. Startup your PC Server.

2. Exit to DOS.

3. Go to the root directory of the server, c:\.

4. From the root directory of the server,
   type:

   COPY CONFIG.SYS
   CONFIG.OLD

Deinstalling Services

The best way to ensure a complete 1.2.1
upgrade is to deinstall (then reinstall) each
service individually. (Do not select the
upgrade function from the 3Plus Server
Installation and Configuration Screen.) To begin deinstalling
services:

If process involves a PC server, restart it, and proceed from
3INSTALL.

If process involves a 3Server, then:
cd \3Plus\3Config, and proceed from
3INSTALL.

1. Select 2, Install or Deinstall Individual Services.

2. Type D to mark each service you want to deinstall.

If you are upgrading from 3+ version 1.1, you should deinstall
3+TurboShare/CIOSYS, 3+Share, Name, and 3+Backup (if they are
installed).

If you are upgrading from 3+ version 1.2, you should deinstall
3+TurboShare/CIOSYS, 3+Share, and 3+Backup (if they are installed).

4. Select Execute.

5. Respond Yes and press [Enter] when asked if you want to continue
with this configuration process.

6. Insert diskettes as requested. Use diskettes from your original
1.1 or 1.2 software. Do not use diskettes from this upgrade package.

When the deinstallation is complete, you are returned to the 3Plus
Server Installation and Configuration Screen.

7. Exit to DOS.

For more information about installing and
deinstalling services, see Chapter 4 of the 3+Administrator's Guide.

Upgrading to 3+ Version 1.2.1

Updating System
Software Files

For updating the 3Server family of servers:

1. Start your netstation with your local netstation diskette.

2. Set the Thumbwheel switch to setting 4 (for Ethernet).

3. Restart your netstation.

4. Insert the 3S/200 Diskette #1 in the A drive.

5. the A prompt, type:

    3C Start

 to run the 3C program.

6. After the connection has been established,
you see the 3C prompt (A:>>). From the
3C prompt, type:

  Install

You are then prompted for Diskette #2.
After the drivers have been installed you
are returned to the DOS prompt. You can
now move on to the PC upgrade procedure.

If you are updating a 3Server, keep your 3C connection, insert the
installation Diskette #1 in drive A of the remote console.

If you are updating a PC Server, insert the Installation Diskette #1,
in drive A of the PC Server.

To update system software files, make sure you are in the root
directory:

1. Make C the default drive and type:

 A:INSTALL

2. Follow the prompts and insert diskettes
(from this upgrade package) as requested.

(System software installation procedures
are fully described in Chapter 3 of the 3+
Installation and Configuration Guide.)

You can safely ignore the message:

Unable to create directory

3. When prompted, enter the name, domain,
and organization exactly as recorded in
the server configuration file printout.

4. When prompted, enter a password for the
server user (if desired).

5. When the installation is complete, press
any key and you will be at the 3Plus
Server Installation and Configuration
screen.

Installing 1.2.1 Services

After updating the system software files, you
need to install the 1.2.1 version services. To install 1.2.1
services:

1. Select 2, Install or Deinstall Individual Services.

2. Type I to mark the services you want to install.

If you are upgrading from 3+ version 1.1, you should install
3+TurboShare/CIOSYS, 3+Share, Name, 3+Backup (if they were installed),
and the Locator.

If you are upgrading from 3+ version 1.2,
you should install 3+TurboShare/CIOSYS, 3+Share, and
3+Backup (if they were installed). The Name service and Locator
remain unchanged from version 1.2 to 1.2.1.

3. Select Execute.

4. Respond No and press [Enter] if
3INSTALL asks if you want to use a
matching library configuration.

If you respond Yes, the installation
process deletes existing parameters you
have entered manually (for example:
3+Share printer designations, 3+Route
phone numbers, and service parameters).

5. Respond Yes when asked if you want to
continue with this configuration.

You can safely ignore the message:

Unable to create directory

6. Insert diskettes as requested. Use only diskettes from this
upgrade package.

The next two steps will occur only if the Name service is installed.

7. At the Name Service Installation Screen, enter the network number
exactly as recorded in the server configuration report. (If you do
not enter the original network number you cannot link to any of
your shared drives.)

8. When the installation is complete, press
[Ctrl]+[A] to accept the values and
return to the 3Plus Server Installation and
Configuration Screen

Adjusting Memory
Allocations

Adding new 3+ drivers and the Locator (only 1 Locator per network)
requires approximately 40K of additional server memory. The easiest
way to make memory available is by reconfiguring CIOSYS, the
File and Print service parameters, the
Locator, or some combination of all three. Use the server
configuration report as a guideline.

For information about adjusting the parameters in your system, refer
to Chapter 5 in the 3+ Installation and Configuration
Guide and Chapter 2 of the NetBIOS Supplement.

When you have finished adjusting parameters, select 6, and exit to
DOS.

Re-Copying
CONFIG.SYS

Note: Failure to update the CONFIG.SYS
file can result in a RUNMINDS failure. To copy CONFIG.OLD (in the
root directory of the server) to CONFIG.SYS use the following command:

COPY CONFIG.OLD
CONFIG.SYS.

Delete the line device=RIPSR.SYS from
your CONFIG.SYS file, if it is present.

Restarting the Server
You can now restart the server.

Installing 3+ Menus

Log into the server as the server-user, link to
APPS as C:, to install 3+Menus:

1. Delete existing EM.EXE and
MENUS.EXE files from the APPS directory. If there are any other
copies of these programs, in other directories or netstation
diskettes, delete them also.

(If the 3+Menus install program finds these programs it does not
install a new version.)

2. Make C the current drive. Be sure you are linked to the APPS
subdirectory (and that you have Read/Write/Create capabilities).

3. Insert the 3+Menus diskette from the upgrade package in drive A

4. Type A:INSTALL

When you install the new version of 3+Menus, your existing 3+Menus
configuration files are not changed.

Creating Netstation Diskettes

You must create new netstation startup diskettes for each station on
the network. A netstation refers to any intelligent standalone
computer or network station used on a network.

If a netstation will be running NetBIOS applications, create a NetBIOS
netstation
diskette for each netstation that will run a NetBIOS application.
(For information about creating netstation diskettes, see Chapter 2 of
the NetBIOS Supplement.)

After you have created a new netstation diskette, incorporate any
customized elements from your 1.1 or 1.2 startup diskette's
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files into the corresponding files of the
new netstation diskette. (If you have other programs or files on the
1.1 or 1.2 netstation diskette, you can copy them to the new 1.2.1
netstation diskette.)

Upgrading 3+ Utilities

You must upgrade 3+ Utilities on each netstation startup diskette for
each station on the network.

1. Start up the netstation with a new netstation diskette.

2. Link to the APPS directory.

3. Insert the User #2 Diskette from the upgrade package in drive A.

4. Type A:COPY 3*.*

5. If you are upgrading from 3+ version 1.1, insert the 3+Backup
diskette in drive A and type A:COPY 3B.EXE.

If you are upgrading from 3+ version 1.2, insert the 3+Backup diskette
in drive A and type A:COPY 3B EXE.

If there are any other copies of 3F, 3N, 3P, 3B in other directories
or on other netstation diskettes, be sure to upgrade them with the
1.2.1 versions or your 1.2.1 software will not work correctly.
