3+Open LAN Secure Release Notes
Part Number 5025-00
4/14/89

This document provides information about 3+Open LAN Secure. Please
read the following information carefully before installing or using
the new service on your 3+Open network.

.BR;System Requirements
.BR;3Com has successfully tested 3+Open LAN Secure with numerous equipment
configurations supported by 3+Open.

.BR;PS/2 50 Computers
.BR;If you have a PS/2 50 series computer, a color monitor is required.
Network warning windows do not pop up on monochrome displays.

.BR;DOS Netstations
.BR;If any of the users on your 3+Open network use DOS netstations, you
should use DOS-enhanced 3+Open LAN Manager instead of the DOS-basic
version. DOS-enhanced LAN Manager is shipped with 3+Open Lan Manager
version 1.1. The enhancement makes it possible for DOS users to
change their passwords; this ability is an important feature of LAN
Secure.

.BR;Warning Message File
.BR;During installation of 3+Open LAN Secure, you have the option of
accepting a default warning message advising users of imminent
password expiration. You can also create and substitute your own
message with its own filename before or after installation.

If you substitute the filename of an alternate warning message (during
installation or later), be sure of these conditions:

New warning message file exists.

Name you enter matches the name of the file.

LAN Secure accepts any filename without further checking. If the file
is not found when it is time to send a warning message, no message is
sent. As a result, user passwords expire and users will be denied
network access.

.BR;Logon Command
.BR;You cannot change your user ID with the Logon command in the Config
menu.

.BR;Working with a Different Server
.BR;The Other Server command in the Config menu lets you select another
server. However, the Password text field in the Connect to a Remote
Server dialog box is not operational at this time. Therefore, if you
have different user passwords for different servers, follow this
procedure to work with another server:

1. Select Logon from the Config menu.

2. Leave your user name as it is shown.

3. Enter in capital letters the password for the remote server.

Be sure to capitalize the entire password. Otherwise, access will be
denied later.

4. Select Other Server from the Config menu.

5. Enter the name of the remote server.
