3Server386 Installation Release Notes

Please read the following release notes before you install the 3+
network operating system from cartridge tape onto your new 3Server386
network server.

1. The 3Server3 and 3Server386 Quick Installation Guide, shown in the
Documentation Roadmap, has been replaced by the 3+ Tape Installation
Guide. This guide contains instructions on how to:

Install the 3+ network operating system on your new server from
cartridge tape.

Configure the operating system with the Quick Installation program.

Format and test the server's hard disk with the 3DISK386 program.

Run the 3Server386 utility program 3C, SETUP, and LASTBOOT.

Create a set of installation diskettes.

This is the guide to turn to first when you unpack your new network
server.

2. To perform the procedure in Chapter 9 of the Installation and Setup
Guide to modify the administrator with the 3N command, use the Backup
#2 installation diskette. This diskette now contains the 3N command.
(You can ignore the procedure in the 3+ Administrator Release Notes
that explains how to access 3N by logging in as the Admin.)

3. The NetDOS program, which is used to check out individual copies of
the MS-DOS operating system for PC netstations, must be installed from
the installation diskettes. To accomplish this, do the following.

1. Install the installation diskette images onto your 3Com server, as
documented in Chapter 5 of the 3+ Tape Installation Guide.

2. Create the two NetDOS installation diskettes, as described in the
same guide.

3. Install NetDOS using the installation diskettes, as described in
the 3+NetDOS Installation Guide.

4. You may now check out the individual MS-DOS licences as explained
in the 3+NetDOS Installation Guide.
