Title: Removing a Domain Name on the Network

This procedure can help if you want to combine users in two domains
into one so that users can log in without having to type their full
three-part name.

Caution: This procedure has not been subjected to exhaustive testing and
may not, in all circumstances, provide a complete solution.

1. Make sure nobody is on the network and that you, the Admin, have a
list of all the users' names, aliases, and homedir names.

To obtain a list of all users' names and homedir names, type:

        3F DIR \\share servername:domain:org

To show all aliases in the domain, type:

        3N DIR ALIAS *:domain:org

2. Log in as Admin and link to \\share servername:domain\3plus.

3. Change directory to the 3SHARE subdirectory and rename the SHRLIST file
to SLIST.OLD.

This step removes all the users of the old domain from the Share list, and
deletes all the sharenames on that server.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each server in the old domain.

4. Type 3N DEL DOMAIN of the domain name you want to delete.

This step removes the NS_DOM.xxx file, which includes all the users of that
domain, from the Name database.

5. Shut down each Share server in the old domain. On 3Servers, make
a console connection (run 3C START with System Software #1 diskette). On PC
servers, go to DOS mode.

6. On each Share server, use a text editor to open S_NAME file under the
3PLUS subdirectory. Modify the three-part Server name to include the new
domain.

7. Reboot all Share servers in operation mode.

This step registers all the servers on the Name database with the new domain
name and creates a new Shrlist with only 3ROOT sharename.

8. Log in as Admin and 3N ADD USERS all the users on the old domain to the
new domain. Make sure you assign the users' homedirs to their original
homedir names and the homedir drives to their original drives.

9. Type 3F SHARE to reshare all the original sharenames (3PLUS, APPS,
APPSADMN, etc.), including printer sharenames.

Repeat step 9 for each server in the domain.

10. Type 3N DIR USER to make sure all the users are on the new domain.

11. Try logging in as one of the users and make sure there is no problem
linking to the homedir.
