Title: Problem with Microsoft Word, MailMinder, and Link Plus Optimizer
date: 10/26/90

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

Versions of MailMinder earlier than 2/26/90 use a keyboard interrupt that
can conflict with various applications, including Microsoft Word version
5.0.

When Microsoft Word 5.0 is run with MailMinder loaded on an Etherlink Plus
card using Link Plus Optimizer, the following symptoms occur:

If MailMinder is activated while the user is typing quickly, the PC stops
responding to keystrokes, beeps for five seconds, and then appears to lock
up. Subsequent keystrokes cause the PC to beep. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete
does not reboot the PC. The PC must be powered off and on again. (If
MailMinder is activated while there is little or no keyboard activity, then
the problem does not appear.)

A new version of MailMinder, dated 02-26-90 with a file size of 14303,
uses timer interrupts instead of keyboard interrupts. Using timer interrupts
prevents MailMinder from interrupting keyboard-intensive activity and
prevents keyboard-intensive activity from interrupting MailMinder.

The new version of MailMinder is distributed with the 3+ Share version 1.6
and with the 3+ Share 1.6 Upgrade Package.
