Title: NCSA Telnet Support for EtherLink II and EtherLink Plus
Date: 8/31/90

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

NCSA Telnet version 2.2 supports the EtherLink (3C501) adapter but not the
EtherLink Plus (3C505) or EtherLink II (3C503) adapters.

NCSA Telnet version 2.3 (currently in beta testing) does support the 3C503
card, but it does not have an internal driver for the 3C505 card. However,
version 2.3 does have packet driver capability and Clarkson has a 3C505
packet driver. Following is information for obtaining version 2.3 and the
Clarkson packet drivers.

To obtain a copy of NCSA software by anonymous FTP, first FTP the README
file(s) to determine which files to transfer to your home machine:

1. Log on to a host at your site that is connected to the Internet and is
running software supporting the FTP command.

2. Invoke FTP on most systems by entering the Internet address of the
server:

ftp ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu
   or
ftp 128.174.20.50

3. To log in, type "anonymous" for the name.

4. Type your local login name for the password.

5. Type "get README.FIRST" to transfer the instructions (ASCII) to your
local host.

6. Type "get README.BROCHURE" to transfer our brochure (ASCII) to your local
host.

7. Type "quit" to exit FTP and return to your local host.

8. Review the README.FIRST file for complete instructions concerning the
organization of the FTP directories and the procedure you should follow to
download the README files specific to the application you want.

While version 2.3 is in beta, it is only available via NCSA's anonymous
FTP server. After NCSA officially releases it (expected later this year),
version 2.3 will be available in the following ways:

From a friend--The documentation, program and source code will be in the
public domain. Copy, modify, distribute, and be happy.

On diskette or tape--On-disk copies and printed manuals will be available for
a small fee which covers materials, handling and postage. The anonymous FTP
tape covers the contents of all disks. Orders can only be accepted if
accompanied by a check in U.S. dollars made out to the University of
Illinois. You can get an order form by contacting:

    NCSA
    University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
    Attention: Documentation Orders
    152 Computing Applications Building
    605 E. Springfield Ave.
    Champaign, IL 61820

Archive server--Send electronic mail to archive-server@ncsa.uiuc.edu.
Include in the subject or message a line with "help" and a line with
"index." This is a controlled-access server which will e-mail the
distribution to you one segment at a time. It is slow, but will gateway to
BITNET and overseas.
