Title: Formatting Compaq 650 MB Hard Drives
date: 5/4/90

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

The FAT-based file systems in OS/2 1.0 and 1.1 allow only 1024
cylinders per hard drive, preventing you from formatting the
entire Compaq 650 hard drive. The HPFS (High-Performance File
System) used in OS/2 1.2 does not have this limitation.

Until OS/2 1.2 is available and supported as a 3+Open plattform,
Compaq recommends using the Compaq-supplied SETUP program to define
the hard drive as Type 42 instead of Type 49. This reduces the overall
storage capacity of the drive to 528 MB instead of 650 MB (you lose 122
megabytes). OS/2 may then be installed, and LAN Manager may be installed
on top of that.
