The Bizcomp 4124 Intellimodem 2400 is a "Hayes compatible" modem.
To use the Bizcomp with 3+Remote/Route, use the following switch
settings on the Bizcomp modem:

SWITCH ON/OFF DESCRIPTION
--------------------------------------------
  1 OFF AUTO ANSWER OFF
  2 ON DTR ACTIVE
  3 ON DCD ACTIVE
  4 OFF ENABLE COMMANDS
  5 ON NO ECHO
  6 OFF MESSAGES ON
  7 ON DIGIT MESSAGES
 (8, 9, 10 ARE RESERVED.)

Switch 1 is off to disable auto answer. When the remote PC dials
into the server, the modem will send the result string "2" to the
server to indicate that the phone is ringing. If the server
decides to answer the phone, it sends the string "ATA" to the
modem.

Switch 2 is on so the modem will monitor DTR. When the remote PC
or server wishes to hang up the phone, it will drop DTR. This
instructs the modem to hang up. If DTR was ignored by the modem,
there would be no way to hang up the phone.

Switch 3 is on so DCD will indicate the true state of carrier.
If the modem is disconnected for any reason, the remote PC or
server will see DCD drop and know the line is down.

Switch 4 is off to enable commands to the modem. The remote PC
or server must send commands to the modem to initialize it, dial,
and answer the phone.

Switch 5 is on to disable echo. Echo is for humans; the remote
PC or server does not need to see the data it sent to the modem.

Switch 6 is off to enable messages. Messages tell the remote PC
or server if the phone is ringing, if the connection was
successful, and if the commands were successful.

Switch 7 is on to enable digit messages. The modem will return
Hayes digit result codes. 3+Remote and 3+Route are written to
understand the digit result codes rather than the English text.
