Have you ever tried to hook up a serial printer to your 3S/400 server,
share it, link to it, send a print job, and discover an hour later
that the print job still hasn't spooled out?

And what about the Mail you keep trying to route to one of your remote
office sites that continues to be returned undelivered? After hours
of troubleshooting cables, printers and modems you've just about had
enough and decide to make a call to 3Com Technical Support.

After checking the cable connection to the 400 Server it is obvious
what has happened. You have connected your modem, printer (or any
other serial device that may not be "working") to Sync A and shared
it as COM1:. This makes logical sense; however, the port assignments
for a 3S/400 server are as follows:

Async Port = COM1:
        *Sync A = COM2:
        *Sync B = COM3:

*Sync Ports A and B can also be used with asynchronous devices.
