Title: Using 3+Reach/MCI in a 3+Open Environment
date: 2/21/90

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

3+Reach/MCI allows a 3+Mail user to exchange messages with any other
MCI Mail user. A dedicated DOS workstation is configured with 3+Reach/MCI
to act as a gateway between 3+Mail and the MCI Mail system. Originally
released for operation in a 3+ environment, 3+Reach/MCI also operates in
a 3+Open environment.

3+Reach/MCI 1.0 has not changed since it was released in 1988. But
because 3+Open Mail uses the same APIs as 3+Mail, the 3+Reach/MCI gateway
can exchange mail messages with mail servers on either operating system.
Both 3+Mail servers and 3+Open Mail servers are accessible to the
3+Reach/MCI gateway.

Requirements for installing 3+Reach/MCI:

1. 3+Reach/MCI requires a Name service. Either a 3+Open Name server
or a 3+Name server can be used.

2. Because the 3+Mail service and 3+Open Mail service require XNS
protocols, the gateway must be installed on a workstation with 3+ device
drivers or on a 3+Open XNS netstation using the Basic MS Redirector.

3. The 3+Reach/MCI gateway software must be installed onto the
workstation's local hard disk or in a server directory such as the gateway
user's home directory.
