Title: 3+Mail "Internal Error -1" When Sending Mail
date: 10/2/89

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

Note: The problem described below applies to 3+Mail versions 1.3 and
prior using 3+Mail client software for MS-DOS netstations.

3+Mail allows a sender to address mail to recipients located on a remote
3+ network. When sending a 3+Mail message addressed to a large number
of remote users, 3+Mail versions 1.3 and prior may fail to transmit the
message.

To send mail to a user in a remote domain, the domain of the remote
network must be registered with a unique network number in the sender's
local 3+Name service. There must also be a route to allow the local 3+Mail
server to forward mail messages to the remote 3+Mail server. Before sending
a message, the 3+Mail client software displays the message "Checking recipient
names" on the bottom line of the netstation monitor as it checks the recipient
names to verify that their domains are registered in the 3+Name service.

The recipients in the To: and cc: fields of a 3+Mail message can be
listed individually or they can be contained in a distribution list.

If the recipients addressed in a 3+Mail message represent more than
20 unique remote domains registered by the 3+Name service, 3+Mail
halts operation at the netstation when the 21st domain is checked.
Then it displays the message "Internal error -1, press return to
continue" on the netstation monitor and does not send the message
to the 3+Mail server.

This problem was solved with 3+Mail client software releases 1.3.1
and 1.3.2. The current release of 3+Mail will allow a sender to
successfully transmit a mail message to users representing more
than 20 remote domains. If the 3+ client program finds recipients
representing more than 20 different remote domains when checking
the names, the 3+Mail client software transmits the message to the
local 3+Mail server for processing.
