Here's a way to edit the MAIL.MFI file without having to use an
editor external to 3+Mail. It is necessary to edit MAIL.MFI
directly in order to

  - delete a folder,
  - add a folder which is not in the same path as MAIL.MFI,
  - add another title for an existing folder,
  - change a folder's title,
  - change the maximum number of messages in the folder, or
  - change the order in which your folder choices are displayed.

When adding a folder (or adding another title for a folder) which
is not in the same path as MAIL.MFI, follow the steps below.

1. Create a subdirectory for the folder.

2. From within the 3+Mail main screen, press F9 (New) to start a
new message, then press [Enter] through the message header until you
reach the compose window.

3. Delete the entire message header (the dotted line, Subj:, To:, and
From:), leaving a blank MED screen.

4. Press [Esc], then type the sequence /MI (for "include").
Then type the full pathname for your MAIL.MFI file; for example,
E:\INBOX\MAIL.MFI.

5. Press F7 (Edit), then edit your MAIL.MFI file.

Note: If you just deleted a folder from MAIL.MFI, be sure to delete
any other titles that may exist for the folder.

6. Press F10, F10 then type Y and press [Enter] to save the edited
version to disk as an IP: (In Progress) mail item. Then exit MED to
the 3+Mail main screen.

7. Highlight the IP message, then press F5 (File), then type the
full pathname of your MAIL.MFI file (such as E:\INBOX\MAIL.MFI).
3+Mail will report that the file already exists and ask if you want
to replace it. Type Y and press [Enter] to write the IP message to
your MAIL.MFI file.

Note: If you just deleted a folder from MAIL.MFI, switch to DOS mode
and delete its subdirectory.

8. Reload 3+Mail to refresh the MAIL.MFI image in memory.

9. Unless you need to make further modifications to MAIL.MFI, you can
now delete the IP: message from the 3+Mail main screen.
