Booting a PC workstation with LinkPlus Optimizer (LPO) on the
3C505 Ethernet adapter board can save over 90 KB of the base 640
KB RAM memory over booting it with a 3+ local workstation startup
disk. To save this space, LPO loads the following DOS device
drivers from the base memory into the adapter memory:

       ETH505.SYS 10982
       PRO.SYS 7280
       BUF.SYS 5616
       IDP.SYS 9847
       SPP.SYS 30672
       LGL.SYS 5549

The following boot diskettes were used to deliver the savings of
93568 bytes:

 * A 3+ local workstation startup diskette, created with default
parameters and the full NetBIOS option, using MAKEDISK in the
\\SYS\APPS directory under 3+ Share version 1.3.1. The
diskette requires 197200 bytes of the base 640 KB RAM memory.
This includes a savings of about 27 KB which resulted from
removing the NetBIOS program from the diskette.

 * A LinkPlus Optimizer startup diskette, created with default
parameters (specifically, LPO diskette 4374-00). The
diskette requires 103632 bytes of the base 640 KB RAM memory.

As well as the default drivers and programs listed above, LPO can
load and run such programs as MailMinder on the adapter memory,
which extends the saving of the base 640 KB memory to more than
100 KB.

The LPO uses the workstation's memory only for the following
programs or drivers:

 * LDR.EXE, which downloads a configurable set of software from
    the workstation to the adapter
 * PTH.SYS, which loads the MINDS and NetBIOS services onto the
    adapter

 * PSH.SYS, which provides transportation services at
initialization for the data and command blocks between the
    workstation and the adapter

The LDR.EXE is not a memory resident program. The two DOS
drivers, PTH.SYS and PSH.SYS, are the only files LPO uses in the
base 640KB RAM memory to function properly; they occupy about
35 KB. These are the only necessary DOS drivers which should be
listed in the CONFIG.SYS on the LPO startup diskette.
