Title: "Unable to determine local sharename" Error in Macintosh Print Service

After rebooting a server with the Macintosh Print Service (MACPS) installed,
the service may produce the error "Unable to determine local sharename."
3Com value-added services may have their error messages read by the 3Audit
program provided on the server under the ..\LANMAN\NETPROG subdirectory.

One cause of this error is that the number of sharenames being used has
reached the maximum allowed, as set in the MAXSHARES= parameters in the
LANMAN.INI file. The Macintosh print service requires a sharename for each
of the printers the service is going to use, but no sharenames may be
available for use. To find out if this is the problem, type:

net admin \\servername /c net share > shares

Check the number of sharenames defined and compare it with the MAXSHARES=
value.

To solve the problem, follow these steps:

1. Increase the value of the MAXSHARES= parameter in the LANMAN.INI file.

2. If the server is currently active, delete sharenames A$ and B$ to free
up two sharenames so that the Macintosh print service can create a sharename
for the printers.

3. To start the print service again, type:

net admin \\servername /c net start macprintservice

4. The next time the server is rebooted, add the A$ and B$ sharenames, if
they do not appear already.
