Title: MAXCONNECTIONS= Parameter Too Low Can Cause Workstation Freeze
Date: 7/2/90

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

If the MAXCONNECTIONS= parameter in the Servers section of the
LANMAN.INI file is set too low, OS/2 or DOS workstations may freeze
when they are automatically disconnected from the server. The
netstation will try to reestablish a session to the server, but it will
not be able to because the resources controlled by the MAXCONNECTIONS=
parameter have been exhausted.

There may not be a message in the error log to confirm the cause.

To test the problem, unlink some links at any workstation and see if the
frozen workstation works again. If it does, increase the number of
MAXCONNECTIONS and restart the server.

A good number for MAXCONNECTIONS= is 4 to 5 links per expected simultaneous
sessions (users). For 50 users, MAXCONNECTIONS= should be between 200 to
250. The value can be raised higher if needed.
