Note: The following procedure may help you solve problems with
3+Open Backup. However, the procedure has not been subjected to
exhaustive testing and may not, in all circumstances, provide a
complete solution.

With a tape in the tape drive, do the "backinfo" and "tape"
sharenames appear in the list of shares for the servers? If
"yes," go to step 2.0. Otherwise, start with step 1.1.

1.1 Run 3SIS.
1.2 Disable and then re-enable Tapeservice.
1.3 Check the CONFIG.SYS file on the server and make sure that
the TAPE.OS2 driver is not remarked out.
1.4 Reboot the server with a tape in the tape drive and check
      for sharenames.
1.5 If the sharenames still do not appear, establish a console
connection and run TAPETEST (select the option that will
      run all the tests).
1.6 If all tests pass, go to item 2.0, else arrange for the tape
      drive to be repaired.

2.0 Make sure the user has created a tapeserver user and has made
that user an admin. It is best not to have a password for
      this user at this time.

Make sure that the person that is currently logged on is a
      member of Admins.

3.0 Delete sharenames "backinfo" and "tape."

4.0 Add sharename "backinfo."

      4.1 Sharename info

           Sharename: backinfo
           Path: c:\3open\3backup\info
           Remark: Tape service control directory
           Max. Users: 50

      4.2 File Permissions

           Check "Set explicit permissions."
Check "Audit this resource" (this should be unchecked after
           troubleshooting is finished).
Move Admins over to "Permitted" with RWCDAP permissions.

5.0 Add sharename "Tape."

      5.1 Sharename info

           Sharename: Tape
           Path: (the last partition):\
           Remark: Tape device
           Max. Users: 1

      5.2 File Permissions

           Check "Set explicit permissions."
Check "Audit this resource" (this should be unchecked after
           you finish troubleshooting).
Move Admins over to "Permitted" with RWCDAP permissions.

6.0 Turn auditing on for the following directories:

       c:\
       (last partition):\
       (last partition):\tape

7.0 Clear the audit and error log.

8.0 Go to a full screen command prompt and enter the
      following command:

net admin \\servername /c net logon servername password /y

9.0 Do a backup using BACKMAN.

9.1 Link to the OS2 apps directory.
      9.2 Change to that drive.
9.3 Enter the following command and the tape should rewind:

            backman load \\servername\tape

9.4 If the tape rewinds, go to step 11, else go to step 10.

10.0 Check the audit log; this may give you an indication why it
      is failing. Possible problems include:

      - Incorrect permissions
      - Tape is write protected
      - Too many users accessing C$ (the default is two users)
      - Too many admins logged in (numadmins in LANMAN.INI)

11.0 Execute the Backup2 program and do the following:

      11.1 Rewind tape.
11.2 Run backup or restore (whichever you were trying to do
             when the problem occurred).
