Printing with PageMaker 4.0 and 3+Open for Macintosh is similar to printing
with earlier versions of PageMaker and 3+Open or 3+. In a spooled situation,
downloading a supplemental dictionary with the print job can cause printing
problems.

To avoid problems, you can correct the situation each time you print, which
is easy but time-consuming, or you can set up a long-term solution, which is
best if many users will be accessing a 3+Open for Macintosh server for a long
time.

SHORT-TERM SOLUTION #1: Use the Apple printer driver instead of the Aldus
printer driver. Each time you print, hold down the option key on the
Macintosh keyboard while you select Print from the File menu of PageMaker.

SHORT-TERM SOLUTION #2: Use the Aldus print driver but tell it not to
download the dictionary permanently. Each time you print, select Print
from the File menu of PageMaker (without holding down the option key). When
the dialogue box appears, select the Postscript... button. Another dialogue
box will appear; deselect the Make Aldus Prep Permanent option.

LONG-TERM SOLUTION: Modify the Aldus print driver so it does not attempt to
make the dictionary permanent. You must decide which printer you are using
(it will be the one selected in the Print dialogue box) and then you must
modify the APD file for that printer. APD files for PageMaker 4.0 are
located in the System Folder:Aldus:APDs folder on your drive. Then, follow
these steps:

1. Select the file you desire to change (for example, LaserWriter II NT.apd)
and make a copy of it.

2. Use a text editor to change the @AllowVMQuery: parameter from "true" to
"false".

3. Delete the two lines that read:

    @ExitServer: "serverdict begin exitserver"
    @Password: "0"

All Macintosh clients that wish to print to a 3+Open Macintosh server must
use the modified file.
