Title: "No Such Volume" Error in Word Perfect for the Macintosh

On 3+ networks, the following problem may occur with versions 1.0, 1.01,
and 1.02 of Word Perfect for the Macintosh. (Version 1.03 works fine.)

When a document is opened using Word Perfect, Word Perfect displays a Note
Alert saying "No such volume." It then opens a document with the warning
"DISK FULL! Please exit Word Perfect." Even though the disk is not full,
typing keys or clicking the mouse causes the PC to beep, making the
application essentially unusable.

This happens because Word Perfect retrieves the Chooser user name from the
System file (technically, resource "STR," ID -16096, for those familiar
with ResEdit). Word Perfect uses the first seven characters of this string
to make temporary file names.

However, most 3+ users have their three-part 3Com name stored in this
field; for example, "JohnB:CSO:3Com." When truncated, the name becomes
"JohnB:C." The colon is a separator in Macintosh file names, and the
leading name indicates a volume name. Thus, Word Perfect tries to open a
file on a disk volume named "JohnB," which generates the "No such volume"
message.

To solve the problem, change your Chooser name so as to not have any colons,
at least in the first seven characters. Word Perfect version 1.03 works
because it converts any colons in the Chooser name to vertical bars.
