Title: How Long Do Entries Remain in RIP Tables?
Date: 10/26/90

The GS/3-XNS, and all 3Com XNS Routers that participate in RIP (including
the Brouter and the GS/X.25-XNS), act according to the Xerox System
Integration Standard XSIS 026112:

After 90 seconds without an update from the router directly
attached to the line, the route is deemed suspect. After 3 minutes
without an update, the hop count is set to 16 and should disappear
from the route tables in another minute (4 minutes total without an
    update).

If the router receives an update with a hop count of 16, it can
either remove the route from its table, or leave it in with the
hop count of 16 as long as it continues to get updates (see above).

If the route goes down, the router which is directly attached (i.e.,
has the best route) to the network will broadcast an updated RIP
table with the hop count set to 16 for that network.
