When installing an IBM Token Ring 16/4 adapter board in a
3S/500-series server, there are several points to be aware of
before you start.  The IBM token adapter board will function properly
in the server if the following steps are taken:

1.  When installing the board, the default switch settings on the
board must be changed so that the server will be able to reclaim
as much base memory as possible for network services.

a.  Set the ROM address to D0000.

b.  Set the Shared Memory space to 16 KB.

c.  Use Interrupt 3.

d.  Set the board switches as shown below.

Switch 1-6   = ROM Address setting @ D0000 (ROM uses 8 KB)
Switch 7-8   = IRQ 3 (allowable interrupts are: 2, 3, 6, and 7)
Switch 9     = Primary/Alternate Adapter (set to Primary)
Switch 10-11 = Shared RAM size 16 KB (allowable sizes are: 8,16,32
                 or 64 KB)
Switch 12    = 16 Mbit/4 Mbit selector (set to 4 Mbit)

information on switch settings.


2.  The server's base memory must be configured for 832 KB from the
front panel switches.  See your 3S/500-series server guide for
instructions on selecting the base memory size.  After installing
the IBM board in a server, the ROM and Shared Memory RAM will
occupy a part of memory and by setting the ROM address to D0000,
only 832 KB can be reclaimed.


3.  After installing the board and the setting the switches, a
console connection must be made to the server for installation.
The System Software #1 diskette must be updated with the proper
CONFIG.SYS file for a console connection under token ring.

a.  Rename the CONFIG.SYS to CONFIG.OLD and copy CONFIG.TOK to
CONFIG.SYS.

b.  Copy the TOKIBM.SYS driver from the 3+ Installation #2 diskette
from the \3PHSLAYR subdirectory.

c.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file to refer to the TOKIBM.SYS driver.

d.  Reset the server so the address is displayed on the LCD.
The address will be displayed as a 50005Axxxxxx number because the
IBM board has a different address than 3Com's adapters (for example,
02608Cxxxxxx).

e.  Execute 3C Start from the workstation and continue with the
installation process.
