Title: Error "S_Name file not found" During Tape Installation
date: 10/2/89

Copyright 3Com Corporation, 1991. All rights reserved.

When doing a tape installation from the TDS (Tape Delivered Software)
cartridge, the following message appears after TAPEINS is executed:

   Tape drive error; software error
   Unable to create directory
   S_Name file not found
   0 files copied

Following this message, the install process will indicate that the
installationis complete but no files are copied to the hard disk.

This happens because the S_Name file has been corrupted or
deleted from the Backup #2 diskette where TAPEINS is started from. When the
tape installation is started, the S_Name file must be copied over to the
server's 3PLUS subdirectory so that the backup program can use it to confirm
that it is the proper server to install to. The S_Name file contains only
the following lines:

   Temporary:Server:Name
   0

If the S_Name file is not on the Backup #2 disk, it can be manually created
using Edlin or another text editor. After doing this, the TAPEINS program
will be able to find the proper S_Name file and copy it to the server before
any other software is installed.
