Title: Time Loss on 3S/40x Servers

The clock on 3S/40x servers may cause a discrepancy in time
between the server and workstations. When users log in to the
network, the time displayed on the workstation is behind the time
displayed on the server's LCD. The loss of time on the
workstations is noticeable when users access the Name service on
the 3S/40x. If the server is used heavily, the time loss can
vary from minutes to hours. If the server is rebooted, the
internal software time will synchronize with the LCD time and the
time loss will start again.

Affected versions of 3+ system software include versions 1.3,
1.3.1, and possibly 1.5.

The current solution for this problem is to execute a program
called TIMESYNC.EXE from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. TIMESYNC.EXE
synchronizes the LCD time with the Name service time. It wakes
up at specified times and makes a DOS function call to set the
time correctly. Since the LCD time is always correct, the Name
service time should also be correct.

It is also recommended to execute TIMESYNC.EXE on 3S/40x servers
not running 3+Name service, since other services such as 3+Backup
need to log the correct time when their operations begin.

NOTE: TIMESYNC.EXE has not been subjected to exhaustive
testing and may not, in all circumstances, provide a complete
   solution.

TIMESYNC.EXE is on the Ask3Com Forum, Library 4 under the name
TSYNC.ARC.
