If your MED server fails to start, many times it is because the associated
index files have been corrupted from an improper shutdown procedure. On
rarer occasions, the MED sever may even report to the error log that it
started properly, then quit abruptly before having a chance to update the
error log with an explanation.

A fix may reside in the use of a utility called MEDBCRE.EXE. This utility
can be found in C:\VIEWBLDR\PROG.

Process:

1. Properly shut down ViewBuilder. This is best accomplished by using
the SHUTDOWN option on the Control Panel.

2. Open up an OS/2 screen group and go to C:\VIEWBLDR\PROG.

3. Execute the program MEDBCRE.EXE.

MEDBCRE.EXE will display some information which may look something
like this:

        Checking recovery log.
        Running
        There were 193 file(s) found
        There were 196 address(es) found
        There were 0 file(s) updated
There were 0 error(s) with files

Even if MEDBCRE does not report any errors, it still may have corrected the
problem which was preventing the MED server from starting.

4. Return to the Control Panel and restart all servers.
